Anyone have the same experience? My GF says all the Thais complaining about electricity on FB. Last few years hottest 3 months of the year

my bill would max out at 2000 - 2500 baht. This year last 4 months 3500 baht. I am pretty liberal with the air cons, wash everyday etc but really always have been last few years and I know this has been a particularly hot summer. Only thing different is I have a medium sized chest freezer which is outside but shaded and under cover. Would this increase my bill so much or have electricity prices increased dramatically?

Yes the freezer will use quite a bit more.

Yes electricity prices have gone up in January this year.

But the increase on a specific 533 units is from the old bill at 2,230 to the new bill 2,255 or just under 1% on the total charge.

So it is your usage not the 'lecky price

FWIW. The hot weather has dropped our bill a couple of hundred this month as we have turned off the water heaters because our indoor tank is giving 33~36 degree water. That seems to have more than balanced the extra AC

My bills have been higher too - but not from price increase.  I'm still paying about 4.2 baht per KWH.  I'm running my AC much more this year mostly for the damn humidity.

I think ot must have been a more significant increase than that. My GF said all her thai friends on FB were complaining and their elec bills would be nothing compared to ours

It wasn't. The  prices went up by 4.3 satang per electrical unit or 1.2% so my under 1% on a 533 unit bill is accurate.

Did not the prices increase after the election results were finalised or am I mistaken?.....

You are mistaken, it was January.

Slightly off topic - But why can't PEA give us a 13 month usage history so we could compare from one year (season) to the last?

They do in the app, it's about 15 months.

Just save the bills.

Inverters in all aircons, fridge..

Use class A++(+) if available for heavy grade appliances

Replace all the fancy hallogene, incadescent bulbs with only led bulbs (if available and possible of course).

Why not try a solar rig ? ? ? (am I missing something here)

Really!... My app only shows the last 6?...

When did you register? We didn't until 6 months ago with one house however if you scroll down under the graph there are 15 spaces, the top ones are populated but only from the time we registered. Another has 7 populated

The last bill was around 650 baht and I was happy with that. Two bedroom house, one AC.

I do notice a spike when using the oven more.

He even air conditions his swinming pool ! emoji39.png

please no wild assumptions gentlemen. except for the master bedroom there is no area in our home which is cooled below 26.5ºC and the water of our pool equires heating, not cooling.

correct is that the enclosed pool area can be on demand airconditioned when it is used as an alternate living room (october till march). cooling it during the hot months would most probably add another 10-12k Baht to the bill.

you are missing a lot. inverters consume like conventional aircons the same kWh based on cooling demand. that in some cases their use results in moderate savings has different reasons (associated with disadvantages).

lighting takes the smallest share of consumption (average single family home). LEDs emit an ugly light (my personal opinion).

solar is much more expensive than public grid (return on investment is abysmaly low). try running aircons via solar and cry.

who or what are class A++(+) appliances?

I was refering to the EU Energy label and if interested, below it will be better explained. Obviously, it is not the norm here in Thailand.

And for a specialist on the topic as you seem to be, I am convinced that this article in the Economic Times could be of some humble interest.
