PHUKET:-- Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana held a high-profile public meeting with the Chinese Consul General in Songkhla Ma Fengchun and Phuket Chinese Consular Office Vice Consul-General Li Chunfu yesterday (June 17) to highlight how safe and convenient it is for Chinese tourists to come to Phuket.

Present at the meeting, held at the Proud Phuket Hotel in Nai Yang, were a host of government officers and officials from Phuket and other Andaman coast provinces, including Phang Nga and Krabi.

Sitting to the Governor’s right at the head table of dignitaries was former Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Teeraphol Thipjaroen, who now serves as Deputy Commander of Region 8 Police.

over a round of golf .. No mention if they got a Grab car to the meeting ..

If the Chinese consuls believe any of that, then I've got a few bridges I'd like to sell them for a modestly large sum.

I guess they didn't talk much about the Chinese teacher who got hit in the head the other day with a golf club by an angry taxi driver.

It would be good if he met with all the European envoys but I suppose we don't matter anymore as the big bucks are coming from china.its just another jolly outing for all as usual.

No guarantee anybody will be safe.

True, however steps can be taken to mitigate the occurance of brake failures, bus overturns, drownings, electrocutions, falls, beatings by taxi drivers and assorted mishaps.

Umm umm we have a general in charge of such matters and we know you like his comments he cant be here today as his 2nd hand has dropped off BJ come back ????

The fact that "Again" is in the heading says it all...(if they actually stated the number of times such meetings to address the same issue have occurred it'd be even more ridiculous)

The Thai authorities will have to react favourably towards the more influential Chinese, unless they want to harm their tourism industry. Remember, China can switch the button anytime,  unlike other foreign countries.

Yes they can and these "steps" have been available for years, but nothing happens or changes............TIT.

Why post the same story twice?

Good question!

This would be as a result of the Chinese rather sarcastically saying at the first meeting "run that by me again"

safety measures???....you mean listen to more babble and labeling it something its not to try and fool everyone into believing that they feel safe?

It's easy to understand the Chinese didn't believe what they heard the first time
