hey yall, so last night i had a few drinks and decided to drive home on my scooter. i wasn't overly drunk but for sure i was over the limit (5/6 watered down beers) anyway driving throguh thong lor when I was pulled over by two cops and asked to give a breathalizer but i refused. they then pulled me off my bike and threatened to tow it away and arrest me if i didnt agree to the test. at this point i agreed and blew into the machine which gave a reading of 0.10. at which point the officer told me i was over the limit and needed to go down to the station, at whcih point i asked them can we not settle this here and now? as it was just me and two guys (both youngish, mid 30's). they thought about it for a moment then I asked them how much? 20,000 baht was the amount, 10 for each man im guessing. luckily i had my bank card in my pocket and they led me to the ATM accross the street. I paid them and they let me go without signing any papers, hoever they did take my picture and a picture of my passport.

should I be worried about this? i'm thinking of heading back to phuket a day early and just hoping this all blows over without any reprecussion. i've learned my lesson and wont be driving under the influence again.

No you don't need to be worried. The photos of you and your passport are just in case it ever needs to be shown that there was at least some minor sanction for driving (just under) the max alcohol limit.

the more i think of what hapened the more i think they may not have even been real police. they didnt show any ID and where not in uniform,, they were standing behind a black pickup truck and dressed in plain clothes ????

they identified themselevs as police though when they brandishsed the brethalizer.

Well I would not want to test that theory out. If you had not offered to 'settle' they might have got on the radio and you would be in huge s**t in a cell somewhere. A lesson learned and although you are shaken, understandably, chalk it up to experience and get a Grab.

I am impressed that you are still alive after driving your motorbike from Phuket to Thonglor (assuming kellersphuket means you reside in phuket most the time)

Sounds like you got away with it to me

So you made a couple of mistakes last night at least. Expensive petrol.

This forum needs to grow a pair. I often wonder how so many law abiding citizens chose Thailand as a place to come and enforce their beliefs.

also i must add that every single one of my thai friends drinks and drives onr a regular basis. everyday after work its the same routine, finish 5:30, pub for 7/8 drinks then straight behind the wheel. i thought it wass the norm here?????

No worries at all. You simply encountered two RTP franchisees, exercising their right to be creative, and taking advantage of the utter immunity the army has promised them.

You should have taken their photo with the cash, telling them it was a holiday snap

Then you have no worries  :ermm:

You just reach the end of the road a bit quicker,

A months salary off the books for 5 minutes work from a foolish farang - result ! If it had been me, I'd have radioed ahead and got my friends to cash in on your drunken antics too.

Disgusting behavior and solution.

Driving drunk and contributing to corruption.

Terrible.

You should be ashamed!

would rather pay 20,000 then face the judge bro.

I dont mind people breaking the law but drunk drivers are almost the lowest of the low as they take other people out with their car / bike instead of killing themselves.

I don’t support drinking and driving. However, there are often times I’ll do a run to 7/11 after having a few rum and cokes on my motorcycle. I don’t cover long distances and I try to not make a habit out of it though. It’s just annoying seeing all these saints chiming in about anything illegal in Thailand. Tres annoying.

I think you should head back to Kansas ..... Thailand isn't for you.

Drunk driving and paying off corrupt police.... sounds like it's made for him.

hey yall,

"another expensive night."

you know what this would have cost you in the states.

i got the same treatment for have Sidegra. Illegal without prescription. "You are going to jail for years for drug possession. 20,000 baht fine."

so now I don't have the Sidegra IV drip hooked up to me while I drive around on my scooter.

Every cop has a copy of your passport and a pic of you giving 10,000 baht to arresting officers...

Advise carrying at least 10,000 baht from now on to pay for routine traffic stops...word is out you are an easy target...
