The 20k limit is killing me. Anyone know if one of these exist in CM?

Yes, I'm aware my home bank will also set a limit to amount withdrawn.

The daily limit is set by your account, not by the ATM itself.

The ATMs here can, I believe, dispense 20,000 bills at one time. If your limit is higher, you can withdraw however many times it takes to get what you need (per day). I believe you can raise your daily withdraw limit over the phone.

On a side note, I have to agree, it's a bit of a nuisance to only be able to spend 200,000 baht a day here.

I have noticed that SCB has changed the per withdrawal limit to 30,000 on all the machines in my area (Udon province) so maybe country wide.

To the point.

And to anyone: please report back what the result of a higher withdrawal attempt with foreign card was.

Two threads and no answer so far.

Recently happened to see a hint on 50k per transaction at a Kasikorn ATM.

But can't even remember where that was.

Just go to the bank office of Krungsri (yellow) or Bangkok Bank (blue) with your passport, ask for cash advance and you can withdraw up to 150000 without any additional fee. Check your bank for daily limit first, it can be lower.  But your card should support such kind operations. For instance one of my US debit cards doesn't support, the rest are OK.

True, the limit is not set by the ATM, but by what has been agreed by one's bank.

Bangkok Bank ATMs give only 25,000 baht max at a time, but one can withdraw much more, providing he has been authorized to do so.

Of course, the purpose of the ATM's limit is to collect more fees.

Now, I wonder why people need so much cash... with 25,000 baht in cash, I can go on for weeks, considering that I use the credit card for large expenses, if need be...

This why I mentioned in the OP that I realize there's also a limit set by my own bank, to avoid all this. Seems inevitable though I suppose.

There IS a limit on max withdrawal on Thai ATMs, in the past and in my current experience it's 20k.

Regardless, the issue isn't how much I can spend, it's avoiding the fees.

I've tried this before and they were clueless and pointed me to the ATM. Maybe I'll try again.

@elektrified @KhunBENQ thank you for 50k and Maya tip. Will see.

SCB and UOB can also do this, but somehow some branches are unable to do it, but might be just because the bank teller has no idea how to do it.

But be sure to read the fine print of your credit card before doing this, one of the credit cards which i own charges a 5% fee for a cash advance at a bank counter, but withdrawing at an ATM is free (besides the 220THB charged by the Thai bank)

Very helpful information. Thank you.

The problem is that for every withdrawel with a foreign credit card you pay 220THB atm fee.

So if you have to withdraw 5 times 20k you pay 1100 THB for fees, if you can withdraw them in one transaction you only pay 220THB

If I needed to draw out 200,000Baht regularly, or over a short period, even I as a Scot, would not be worried about the 220Baht(s)!

PS;  Do you mean debit or credit card,  If a UK credit card the interest for withdrawing cash on a UK credit card would be over at least 17% on most cards.

They can send to ATM if you requested less than 20K. Otherwise just tell them, that I don't want to pay ATM fee twice, please give me money.

BTW, Krungsri ATMs can give 30K per withdrawal. Max amount limited by physical size of money, so it's impossible to give more than 20-30 sheets at one time depending on ATM construction.

Not all the Krungsri or Bangkok banks have the facilities to do this, though some have, probably less than 50%.

there is no fee if you withdraw from your own bank and even different bank (few times per month) in the same province

This sounds like the limit by the foreign card (issuing bank) or even a general restriction for certain countries.

Misc posts say that US CC often allow only 1000 USD ~ 31000 Baht.

Also seems for some countries you have to contact your bank to explicitely allow withdrawal in Thailand.

At the times when AEON allowed up to 100k without fee I managed to withdraw 98000 in one transaction with a German CC. At the time I did copy the slips in case immigration would ask for source of funds (which they never did).

Don't make the mistake of doing this w/o checking with your bank first. I made the mistake of taking the advice of people on TV and doing this at the BBL at KSK which everyone recommended. Sure I saved the 150 Baht ATM fee but was charged US $18.20 by the bank. I almost never have the need to access U.S. banks but in the last 10 months have needed to twice. The 2nd time I used another debit card, this time at Aeon and I was charged 1200 Baht when I got the SMS. I called to inquire and was told that the financial institution has an absolute right to make a profit on the currency conversion. So never again.

The real nuisance is having to do it 20 times a day, every day. I barely have time left to spend it.
