PowerPoint not working

I run Win7 from choice on my 3 year old laptop

I installed Office Home and Student 2013.

All installation discs are originals.

 

I had many PP files from an old laptop ( it has died ), running the same programs and copied them to a backup drive.

This I then copied on to my present laptop.

None of the PP files would allow the interactive option, important as I use in teaching.

None of the PP files seem to have the original layout.

 

I tried reinstalling PP from the Office ... disc but it keeps showing error and will not install, tried twice but same issue.

 

Any ideas please, note I am an oldie and not that technically minded.

Not very helpful since the OP is trying to use existing PowerPoint files.  LibreOffice's conversion of PowerPoint to Impress is dire.

I've never had issues opening Powerpoint files in Impress and vica versa. My copy of MS Office failed after recently upgrading to Win10, problem happened just as I needed Powerpoint to complete a set of presentations, I finished the job in LibreOffice. Have stuck with it ever since. OK so I'm not one for irritating special affects in my presentations, they might fall over, but for a standard presentations with lots of graphics I've had no issues.

OP< have you tried installing Office in safe mode? 

 

  If you're planning a new installation, why don't you upgrade to 2016, or 2019? If you don't know how, please page me. I can walk you through it.

Speedo, have you tried opening a powerpoint, from your backup drive on another computer with MS Office installed?

 

Try to narrow down where the problem is, ie, are your saved files corrupt or is your instillation corrupt?

 

Have you tried right clicking on one of the powerpoint files and use the Open With option?

Already have Office installed which was done when I first purchased the laptop in 2015.   It was reinstalled, for some reason, can't remember why.   Thanks for the offer of 'walking me through'.

 

Did you mean "Have" I tried reinstalling Office ?    I have the original disc with key.   Is it easy to uninstall and reinstall ?   Now that I have retired from my consultancy work and almost retired from teaching not sure if it is worth upgrading.

 

Previously I used PowerPoint on a Toshiba laptop ( it gave up the ghost aged 3 years and a few months - motherboard - shame it was a perfect machine design wise - would like to repair but Toshiba said very expensive - but a new mother board is only about $200.   My daughter had a Toshiba aged 14 years and I had a Packard Bell ( built like the proverbial sh,, house, aged 10 purchased in 1996 ).   

 

Will try downloading some new PP files and see if they work.

Thanks chrisinth, no not tried on another machine, people are very wary, will see if someone from my street side early morning coffee and butterflies friends will help out.

 

Do you think I should delete Office from my machine and reinstall from original disc and key ?   Is it easy to do ?

 

When I transferred files from my backup drive many did not save properly, many files have a name with a ppt ending and are empty, others have a pptx ending and have pictures etc but the layout is different, others are no longer interactive.

 

Yes, have tried right clicking and Open With option, still no joy.

 

Going to try downloading a file again from the internet and see what happens.

No idea if your System Restore is on? But if so, you could try to get the system back to a time when it worked.

 

   If not, reinstall which is pretty easy. I've bought many activation keys for MS Office via E bay for only 200 to 350 baht.

 

   But did you try to run it in safe mode?

 

  Are you sure that the files are readable? Please try to open one of these files with another machine first.

 

  Uninstall and installation of MS 2-016, or 19 will only take about 30 minutes to an hour. 

 

Having the installation disc could even get you the option to repair your installation. Here's how to uninstall it.

I tried downloading new PP files but the sound does not work neither are they interactive.

 

I have Office Home & Student 2013 use 1 PC.  It has Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote.   It is an original boxed disc/s with key.

Do you mean uninstall 2013 and buy / install 2016 ?

 

If I delete Office 2013 will I loose any Word files etc. I have on my laptop ?

Should I delete the one on my laptop and reinstall from original disc and key ?
