Unfortunately the reform needs to start with him and his farce group stepping down as they are just the kettle calling the pot black. So Hypocritical.

It doesn't really matter what number you dial, nobody will pick the phone up.

  • Not too sure how he is planning to achieve that without the section 44 in his back pocket .   police already do not take him seriously , now this is going to be fun to watch

Is it me or does anyone else get the impression when Thai officials talk tough the only thing on their mind is to shake down their targets for a little more Tea money.

He already squandered five years. Five years with super powers, that is. As he wasn't able to "reform" the police then, he won't be able to get the job done now either.

The Police, as with the Army, are simply an extension of the rich elite here.

It was promised by the previous Prayut government five years ago, but nothing concrete has taken place as the government lacked the political will and courage to reform the police force.

That pretty much, honestly, tells the whole story....

Why the PM is blathering about it now, I have no idea, since just about as much is likely to happen now as has happened in the past five years.

Just add police reform to his long list of broken promises -- cleaning up air pollution, lessening traffic in Bangkok, making tourism "safe"....  :cheesy:

He will meet his match if he tries to reform the police. And their is only one winner.

Please be PC "pot of no colour" might upset the lefties!

So, in the civilian Thai constitution the PM can just 'take control' of Thai agencies and ministries?  That's in the PM's job description? Just wondering.  Sounds unusual.

"civilian Thai constitution"?It seems those currently running the show can interpret the "current" constitution(not sure I would call it civilian) any way they see fit!

5 years ago he was to fix the lottery price scams. That went well !!!

If he can't control lottery vendors he has no hope with the police.

Actually, he is just a nohoper.

Ah; the Parrot that keeps repeating itself.  Presumably next it will be the Thai Soaps being rewritten by him personaly to reflect the love and good intentions Thai people show to each other every day instead of the violence with Guns, Knives and any other weapon they can lay hands on shown currently.  'It's got to stop' he said five years ago !

WOW!

3 positions now PM, Defense Minister and now Police Reform Overseer

He'll be loaded in no time ????

He simply can't help himself can he? Did he clear this with parliament or just seize the power outright? Vote? Jus askin'?

This begs another question. Under his charge, a military, authoritarian government. Article 44 why does the RTP need cleaning up? Why now after six years?

Why on Earth would this be an issue for a prime minister anyway? Oh yes, we're still living under a military government.

"... he will personally take charge of the Royal Police Office"

What he really means is, he will move the dot matrix printer onto another desk and upgrade the PCs to MS-DOS 6.22

Well, there was much mirth when Big Joke, having upset most of the Immigration Police with his 'no tips, no queues' policy was removed to the Prime Ministers Office.

Then came Big Oud who has upset the crinklies by bringing up TM30.

Then Prayut, who has a handy assistant in his office, says he's going to reform the Police.

Now who do we know that isn't afraid of upsetting the apple cart and reforming police departments?

To have full control and for dictatorship to succeed one must control all areas of enforcement , police and army.

problem is that Big P does not understand that to control police he needs to “buy” them not reform them.

Russia is a perfect example of how to get full grip. Putin raised salary, almost doubled for all police and armed forces. He gained their full trust and support.

Big P, has been buying toys for the army but nothing for the police and now he wants to reform police . He will fail miserably and make more enemies than friends

This whole shemozzle reminds me of a Gary Larsen cartoon.

"High above the hushed crowd Rex tried to remain poised..

Still,there was the nagging thought...

He was an old dog and this was a new trick.."

Gosh  does  this  mean  another even shorter  haircut  for  them? thats  real  reform alright!

Yup-the 'Das Reich' retro hairstyle circa 1938.

One of my pet hates is how ineffective the police are in, say, Pattaya.  They fiddle (and I mean fiddle) whilst Rome burns.  No attempt is made to lower the daily death total on the roads; instead they write out meaningless tickets for petty traffic infringements as a money-making exercise.

Maybe Prayuth means to tackle this futile use of police resources?

A new CEO for RTP Inc.?

Prayut to reform police.

Efforts to micro manage seems to be very in vogue for the new order of world leaders who hail from backgrounds such as army or real estate hustling. They possess very little knowledge of politics. They either lack the ability to delegate or perhaps feel that only "they" can do the job right.

It was only four years ago he said that 911 would become the new national emergency number:

From the link below:

Thailand will soon have the national emergency number 911 as a universal hotline number.

"A committee chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will oversee the operation of the 911 emergency calls."

Mix up with that but Porsche sales went through the roof????

Interesting approach reforming rotten with even more rotten????

A lot of talk for nothing- he had 5 years with special powers that he had given himself to reform the police and did NOTHING!

In short “reform” for him means bringing his own cronies in to control the police.
