Thai police banned from using Facebook; letter circulated online

A section of the Royal Thai Police has apparently been ordered to stop using Facebook.

A letter purporting to come from the Protection and Crowd Control Division cites "safety concerns" and "sensitive government data" as reasons for the ban.

Police have been told to stop posting information and pictures as this might damage the image of the force.

The order was issued in a letter from Pol Col Banleusak Saengsawang. It was dated July 31st.

Daily News said the order was causing much comment online and so far they had been unable to ensure its veracity.

I would think that this order in not about what officers might write on fb, but what they can read and share. That’s why it’s a total ban.

Police, and soldiers, might become demoralised by reading opinions about police, politics, government and the king, including lese majeste content, which are all widespread on fb, other social media and on internet.

Those ignorant goons, fed with state propaganda, will carry on oppressing population, as they already do. That’ why order came from this, and not any other, police department

How will they fill in their time now?

Will they be able to cope with the withdrawal symptoms?

They all have weapons, there's an easy out for those that can't handle it!

They should use FB as civilians but they always make their profile pics in full uniform

hate it when i get a cop as friend suggestion.

There will have to be a Facebook equivalent of leaving your uniform peaked cap on the back shelf of your car!

Paranoid police patrol?

????

They're not going to Like this...

Well if they really want to gain respect they will just ban everybody from using Facebook.

My son tells me that in the Thai media it's mentioned that many cops (and other gov't officials etc.), have personal facebook, twitter etc., pages including full nudity with erections etc.

Well with the latter point I assume the photos are 10x magnification in order to see them ????

If that is in fact true, how on earth would the police control their personnel using a free global application to communicate? All switch to Whatsapp, Line, Twitter to name a few? Really stinks of false news.

If I was in the police and I received an order like that, I certainly wouldn't follow it, especially on my off time.

The image of the RTP has been damaged to the point where it is totally beyond repair.

But given that PM Prayut has now taken personal control of the RTP it could get worse; if that's possible.

Isn't that a bit of an overreaction? If the guy wants to post pictures of his kids and dogs then let him. If he's doing something inflammatory then crack down on him.

Facebook. Meh.

No, your children are not the special ones.

Neither is your dog.

Suspect it has more to do with events from the past few days than Cop Porn.

They should have published it in facebook. I don't think anybody reads those circulars.

Lol, my local cop friended my wife so i friended him as you do. He then was starting to stalk our friends and like and love sexy pics and such. The guys a douche what can i say but he did like my 0-300kph runs on the big bike and all the other highly illegal stuff i wont mention. Had to delete and block him though as it was becoming real embarassing to descent normal friends????????

He had 5k friends and all little girls. Yeh, i reckon he shouldnt be a cop. Best not to hide who these people are. Spozd to b protecting the citizens but they are just all corrupt usless scum.

Candy Crush............

I wonder if it’s to prevent doxing in the future. But if an issue atm in Hong Kong

I see cops all over the place staring intently at their iPhones. I assumed, naturally, that they were working extremely hard on important projects, not playing on FaceBook.
