One for the Network and Internet Gurus...please accept the challenge and help!

Featured Replies

So I have True home internet. So it's supposed to be 100mb download. So it should work when I want to stream my favourite iptv channels or bbciplayer etc...BUT.... it doesn't.

Have even bought a new Mi Box S and checked the speed, it is saying it's pinging at around 9 and the download speed is around 80-90 mb download and 40-50 upload and that is not working, constant channel buffering.

My provider is saying he is completely baffled and that it should be working. He says he has tried with terrible connections in Europe and it works so doesn't know why not working from here.

I can get True guys to come out but don't know how to explain or replicate the problem without showing my channels....

Does anyone have any ideas of things I could try? Does anyone watch tv successfully without buffering etc?

Next I am going to try to connect via ethernet direct however, at the speeds I am getting over wifi it should be working, no?

Right, all the help I can get would be much appreciated!

That speedtest will be to servers in Thailand. That wont help with connections to outside of Thailand which are frequently throttled by Thai ISPs or by poor routing on the way.

So try a speedtest to a server in the UK and wherever your IPTV provider's servers are and see what result you get.

As for wifi, you should do your tests using only Ethernet cables so as to rule out any wifi problems. Once you have it working properly on Ethernet then you can try over wifi again, and for what you are doing it should work fine.

For what it's worth, even my 250Mbps connection struggles with BBC iPlayer at some times of day though it doesnt actually buffer as the BBC stream automatically reduces the resolution if it detects a poor internet connection. So I find it better to use the iPlayer download function rather than try to stream in real time. Of course you would normally need a VPN for that, and the VPN can also slow things down significantly.

I now have 3BB 200/200 Fiber, but even with their VDSL I have had no issues streaming BBC i-Player, US TV, US Netflix, VUDU or AUS TV. I stream all my content through my laptop and view on my TV. I do not use any 3rd party sites for streaming.  I also game online with a PS4. I live in a rural area NE of Surin. My ping to 3BB servers in Bangkok is 9ms to Singapore 19ms and LA 224ms.

You are working on maybe 10% of the possible problem. You only look at the connection from your ISP to your home to your computer. There is 90% more which you can't control.

Like previously said you should test using a server in the UK.

I assume you are using windows. Search the "CMD" aplication and open the console. Type "ping 8.8.8.8" and make sure the icmp_seq doesn't skip any packet. I had some issue with intermittent UDP packet (streaming, VoIP, etc.) dropping. It was solved using a VPN over TCP (https would also work).
