It wasn't the brakes... this time the steering wheel was to blame!

A Thai tour bus driver taking two dozen Chinese tourists shopping came up with a novel excuse for an accident that left his vehicle in the undergrowth.

The steering wheel came loose, said Anan Theuman, 44.

Anan was taking 25 Chinese tourists along Bang Na Trat when he was coming over the "Jorakhae Yai" (big crocodile) bridge.

He heard a loud noise and then the steering wheel came loose in his hands. Luckily he wasn't going very fast, he said.

A video on 77kaoded showed the tourists after their evacuation. The escape hatches were open and the bus was half on its side between the main road and the service road at KM marker 22.

Ten tourists were taken to Bang Na 2 hospital with minor injuries.

The bus belongs to the Thong Kham Prasit Transport company.

Bang Sao Thong police in Samut Prakarn are investigating.

Who believes it will be soulful!

Unfortunately they are always the same reasons that lead to these situations, often with a tragic end!
Incompetent drivers without due instruction and sense of responsibility, and vehicles with little or no maintenance!

I don't see a picture with the driver holding the steering wheel.

I would issue a large penalty on the company of around 3 million baht also the area that gave the all clear on last inspection of the bus would be given a penalty and full audit with a record made of the incident

The owner of the bus company would be penalised financially and be ordered to have his entire fleet serviced

Very lucky no one died and not a multiple car pile up happened, very lucky indeed.

This kind of happy go lucky approach is exactly why there are so many fatalities on the road every year and parents lose their children from this kind of stupidity the whole bunch are to blame the owner of the bus, the driver, the inspector who gave it the all clear - whole lot need to be fined and put to shame

Next time it could go through a restaurant with people sitting eating and kill an entire workforce saying 'mai pen rai krub' will not work then and bowing to a golden image of a man meditating will be counter productive as the man himself promotes mindfulness of which there is clearly non to be found here! ????

Tick tock major pileup incoming tick tock tick tock

Maybe the bus will go through an entire police department having lunch next time - maybe then someone will care

He hasn't loosened the bolts before the police check yet

Yes- it happens everywhere.  However, things like this happen often in Thailan because greedy and rich owners refuse to maintain equipment timely and properly.  And, they do not carry the proper insurance and force the drivers to continue to drive past the point of endurance.

Until there is an accident- the owners skirt the law because the regulatory agencies do not do their job and it is the drivers and the public who bear the blame.

Thailand has had a history of things like this happening- public vans having accidents; buses not properly maintained; nightclubs going up in fire due to lack of oversignt.

While thee things happen in other countries- they happen less and when they do there is swift action by the police and courts. Fact of life in Thailand- sorry , but the truth hurts.

Nut at the wheel...plenty of them all over the world.

Nah mate, it's the "loose" nut, behind the steering wheel.

What are the police investigating, i will help them, dont bother with the steering wheel take a look at the steering linkage on the other end of the steering wheel they will be the first to look there in many a year.

i think the loud noise the driver refers to was the drag link or steering arm or one of the other components that need routine maintenance every six weeks or so dragging on the road after becoming detached through neglect, could well of been over on its side and all fatalities

Neglect in the UK would amount to corporate manslaughter

The only loose nut was holding the wheel....after the crash!

Unfortunately nobody is going to be able to see any change.

As absurd as the excuse may seem my steering wheel came loose on my Honda. Fortunately there was a Honda dealer handy to deal with it. So when checking your oil, water and tire pressure, check your steering wheel. You never know.????

Also the checks of the busses (and cars) at the government offices are a joke.

If you want to compare Thailand vehicle maintainance to Malta (with a population of under 500,000 and the tallest building is 300 ft)...you nailed it......555

Ok, let’s go to the USA. Population 327 million.

Apparently you live in Thailand...as do I ,as do many here on this forum...I for one care about this once great Nation , I have a child in school here,i own property,i have a wife, and I want Thailand to be the best it can be, but sadly IT IS BROKEN and it is broken on many levels ,but lets start with  basics such as standards and enforcement, I am sure we both agree Thailand has some issues( to put it lightly) ..so when you say ''it happens everywhere'' , yes it does but that said shit happens here far far to often and please do not deny that, because denying that enables this system to carry on....one stat ''Road carnage''..i am sure we can all agree this number is far too high, and it is high for various reasons and one is enforcement and maintainance of equipment and or people who operate said equipment....Bad breaks and feeling tired are excuses , a steering wheel coming lose is a wake up call....have a good day sir...

But in UK there would be an investigation by specialist engineers and the police to determine what or who was at fault.

The loud bang could have been the noise he heard when he was woken up as the coach was sliding off the road, or perhaps the sound effects in his mobile phone version of Call of Duty.

Saddly in LOS this event and its alledged cause would just be a joke around the lunch room table as the transportation field agents played on their phones, and ran out the clock to go home...and the cycle of denial ,deflection and blame continues..
