Well, if there are no customers to rent their bodies, and there is no money in rice farming, I guess that leaves them with very few options other than to get a proper job.

Or get married ....

Advanced bookings, or lack there of, may give an indication as to whether there will be a high season, or not.

High season along Beach rd preview. For those Westerners who happen to visit this high season for relaxing days - most likely are not coming back.

In Addition to all the other ongoing construction especially the North Pattaya area and now even into Naklua

So let me get this straight.  People on here complained that the flooding was going to drive tourists away.  Now that they are digging up roads to fix the flooding you are saying that that is now going to drive tourists away....rrright.

And they are going pretty fast with that work on beach road.  They were near walking street last week and now they are at Royal Garden.  Anyone know how far they are going?  That's a huge pipe they are putting in there.  Looks like about 5' to 6' diameter.  Big enough to stand inside.

I wasn't one of the ones who previously complained, nor am I complaining now, but don't you think it's too little, too late?

To late for what?  To little of what?

The western tourists are now detouring Pattaya / Thailand, so, too "late" to put a "little" investment into infrastructure.

They way the bar girls are piling on the KG's I would assume ALL year is high season !

Been coming since 1971 so I've seek the "changes."  I like fit athletic girls so it's a challenge.  Never thought I would dream to see the day where GoGos had obese girls loaded with cellulite even a few with "C scars" on stage.  I only go when buddies come to town have to do the "tour guide thing."  Everywhere the obesity rate is skyrocketing in both adults and children as well.  It's a shame really on many levels.  I find it sad that otherwise beautiful young girls are turning into mini "jaba the Huts."  Finding a truly fit girl these days is  difficult to say the least.  they're there but rare.  Fitness first!!!  Increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Thai children and adolescents associated with increasing prevalence of obesity. ... The period of increase in type 2 DM is associated with an increase of obesity prevalence from 5.8% in 1990 to 13.3% in 1996.

Obesity has reached alarming levels in the Asean Economic Community and especially in Thailand, where 32 per cent of the population are overweight

Even if Thailand gives visas to Pakistani, Iranian's, Iraq's, Kuwaitis, Nigerians, Somalis. That's not going to attract holiday makers to Thailand since the cost of coming to Thailand has risen over 35%-fact. Even to purchase a new vehicle by foreigners has increased over 26.8% in actual cost! The Thai economy is heading for a 1988 economic crash!

I been putting a lot of time into studying/trying to understand all this.  My conclusion is the same as yours.

Agreed, all places need investment and upgrade into infrastructure, Pattaya included.  Seriously even if they have "Killed the golden goose in Pattaya" to say it needs upgrade your infrastructure is a gross understatement. As far as tourism goes I cannot understand why anyone come here if it was not for the Girls.  And a high percentage of them are turning into sweat hogs as well so, short of a casino, I can't imagine why anybody would come here especially with families.

Maintenance is not high up the list in Thailand

There will be no last minute rush, unless the the baht is significantly devalued, and I can't see that happening any time soon.

I expect we will see many businesses close their doors early 2020, after a high season doesn't materialize, and there is no point continuing operations into a losing low season.

Maybe you would care to explain why Pattaya / Thailand has been slowly losing it's market share of the lucrative western tourist market over recent times?  It's not all about the recent strong baht.

The loss of a huge portion of the lucrative western tourist market has been caused by many things, infrastructure included, but infrastructure is not the sole reason.

For example, there is still sewage flowing into the beach water, and how long did it take them to dump extra sand on the beach? All too little action, or no action at all, and all too late.

Thailand, in general, not just Pattaya, has lost a huge portion of the lucrative western tourist market.  All it has left is the sex trade, and with the majority of tourists to Thailand now being Chinese and Indians, who do not indulge in the sex trade, that leaves Pattaya / Thailand in uncharted waters.

Well driving through Pattaya last night there was very very few customers in the open bars or restaurants that were open to view

Never know what "season" it is here but just now it is extremely quiet, with the exception of groups of Indians walking around the pavements

Plenty of coaches on the roads and I'm sure the hotels are doing okay

This doesn't help the small businesses though, the whole place is changing rather quickly

For better or worse time will tell.....

Oh look another Pattaya is doomed, the end is near, it's all going downhill post.  Those are just so rare (rolls eyes).

People have only been saying these things forever.  Funny thing is, none of their predictions ever happen.  What is really changing is the people making these posts.  They still expect the girls to scream when they see them walking down the Soi like they did when they were coming here 20 years ago or whatever.  But it can't have anything to do with them.  Oh noooo.  It's Pattaya that is going downhill.

In my opinion, Pattaya is as good as ever.  A little bit lower low season this year but that's a good thing for me.  Probably has to do with the exchange rate more than anything.   Still LOTS of punters around though.  It's anyone's guess what happens with the exchange in the future.

Some would say, we are already in a concentration camp.

If it requires concentration to set up a concentration camp they may need to rename them.

No dooms day predictions from me.  I have clearly said before the sky is not going to fall down over Pattaya, nor will Pattaya fall into a big hole in the ground.

In my opinion, what we will see is less choice and variety for westerners, as commercial premises previously catering to westerners, give way to businesses catering for Indian and Chinese.  We are seeing this now.

Of the remaining businesses catering for westerners, it will be interesting to see who will survive, and who will close, but I would say the time is fast approaching where will will find out.

This is why I started a thread about this. "Is the closure of your favorite bar or restaurant imminent?"

What does this mean for westerners here, in the short term, less variety and choice, probably with higher prices. and in the long term, Pattaya may become Little Beijing and / or Little Mumbai.

Or, market to countries with less infrastructure so they will be impressed when they get here.  ????
