Old man harbored a 50 year grudge from school - then he shot his former classmate

A 69 year old man shot his friend of the same age after trouble that started in high school and continued to the present day.

Thanaphat, 69, had always asked Suthat to apologize for what happened in the 1960's but he refused.

After dinner at a restaurant in Ang Thong central Thailand on Saturday he once again asked his former high school buddy to say sorry. He didn't and an argument ensued.

Ex navy man Thanaphat went to his car and got a 9 mm gun from a bag and shot the other man dead.

He fled but later was persuaded by friends to give himself up and was yesterday taken on a reenactment in which he admitted everything.

He said he didn't mean to kill Suthat and didn't think that he would die, reported Sanook.

He said his apologies to a picture of the victim before being taken away on a warrant issued by the Ang Thong court.

Relatives later posted bail and he was released temporarily.

Pol Col Mongkhon Phuwapraphachart said it shows what can happen when alcohol fuels arguments dragged up from the past.

Wonder what good excuse he has for all the sudden road rage created by mentally ill and unpredictable people?

If the man still doesn´t believe a shot from a 9mm can kill, then just let him try it on himself.

Forgive but never forget or Never forgive nor forget????

Not helped by the seriousness of loss of face which Thai kids learn quickly.

He shot at a man, but didn't mean to kill, or think he'd die. I marvel at his capability - and capacity - for extreme stupidity

It is strange for a Buddhist country that people are so egotistical and petty. The women too.

Buddhist is about dropping the ego, yet they don't get it.

"Well I guess that is ok then. That wipes the slate clean".

There was no suggestion of that anywhere.

That'll do then ... case over

Not meaning to kill, and not expecting death doesn't really go with shooting people...or does it?

Are these thais really buddhists? Buddhism didn't teach them how to deal with their anger? I don't understand Thais.

I understand a 50 grudge, but not to kill him, thats too quick

He’s now been given detention to write out a hundred lines "I must not shoot my classmates ".

let that be a 'lesson'.

The notionally "loving" teachings of Christ didn't/doesn't stop Westerners from murdering each other, why would the teachings of Buddha stop Easterners from murdering each other?

The image (that many Westerners have) of the "peaceful" character of individuals in "Buddhist" countries is essentially one of the storybook and the tourist brochure/travelogue.

The region is no less steeped in anger, resentment and violence than the "Christian" West.

They fight aggressive wars against each other (Burma vs Siam and others), they perpetrate genocide (Cambodia).

That is their world.

That is the world

Grow up.

Do they also get upset with a sad emoticon on their posts like some members here do?
