Sharpie-gate? Trump shows apparently altered hurricane map

U.S. President Donald Trump and acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan hold up a National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) chart showing the original projected track of Hurricane Dorian that appears to have been extended with a black line to include parts of the Florida panhandle and of the state of Alabama during a status report meeting on the hurricane in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, U.S., September 4, 2019. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump showed a map of Hurricane Dorian's projected path on Wednesday that appeared to have been altered with a Sharpie pen to include the state of Alabama, which was never in harm's way.

In a White House video released on Wednesday Trump points to an official weather chart dated Aug. 29 showing the states that could be hit in what the National Hurricane Center calls the "cone of uncertainty." A curved line had been added to the cone on the chart to show a risk that Dorian could move from Florida to Alabama.

"It was going to hit not only Florida, but Georgia, it could have, it was going towards the Gulf, that was what we, what was originally projected...," Trump says in the video.

Dorian was never projected to be heading towards the Gulf of Mexico, where Alabama has a coastline.

Trump at the weekend in a tweet had named Alabama as one of the states that could be hit. The National Weather Service denied that in its own tweet 20 minutes later.

"Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east," the National Weather Service in Alabama tweeted.

When reporters later asked Trump whether the chart had been drawn on with a Sharpie pen, the president said: “I don’t know; I don’t know.”

Originally he probably mixed up "Bahama" with "Alabama" - he does have severely declining mental capabilities which are presented in these sorts of problems (on display when he's reading the prompter) - and since then, as he is so insecure and thin-skinned, he just can't let it go.

This is like a thousand other trump incidents, beginning with the size of his innauguration. That one required all sorts of gyrations to satisfy the boss,  from altered photos, "alternative facts" to Mr. Spicer getting on DWTS.

On the plus side he was able to draw the additional circle quite well. Give him a star for this morning's exercise.

Can't imagine the work his body-men and women have to do each day.

And what's with the hat? Did he have some "work" done on his mane (stable genius that he is) over the break? Just imagining Obama wearing a ball-cap, oh the horror on Fox.

Yeah, nevermind that Trump may have broken the law with this pointless act of stupidity.  But hey, he's broken the law before and he will do it again.  He's the President, laws don't apply to him!

[President Donald Trump may have broken federal law by altering a map from the National Hurricane Center to lend credence to his false claim over the weekend that Alabama was in the path of Hurricane Dorian.]

wouldn't want to be the that employee of the Alabama Nat. Weather Service who released that statement saying that Ala. was never in the path.  Will be fired, or demoted at least, losing his retirement benefits, etc.

That would be abhorrent....but Trump supporters will defend that somehow, some way.

I guess he "thinks" if he just said "I misspoke" one time his hard core base would abandon him.

with a Sharpie.

He probably has killed off the remaining brain cells sniffing his sharpie? Both of them (brain cells, not sharpies).

Here's what really happened:

he thought he was looking at a drawing on a mens' room wall, and he noticed one of the testicles was missing....

What if he is doing an exercise on his base where they are being tutored to accept his truth (being the marked map) over the fake news from the National Weather Service.  "See that folks, they can't even be honest with a weather report!"

He's the most useless president since Carter. Just ten times dumber for expecting most of us to believe his fake weather report.

Fake weather. Imagine having to work for a boss like that.

Seems odd not to offer those special black & gold "classy" Sharpies?

One assumes trump will do the weather on trumpTV, beginning in January, 2021?

"No one knows the weather like me."

There are some awesome Sharpie/trump memes out there, too many to post.

Leave it to him to make a relatively minor gaffe into a full blown -gate, all while appearing petty, ignorant and sleazy.

Can the media sink any lower? Shaprie Pens? This is why they are the one of the most distrusted and despised institutions in all of America. Not even a token effort to appear objective or even sane anymore. You have to feel pity for people who get their information from Fake News.

Serious question. Is there anyone in this forum, who is from outside of the US, that thinks Donald Trump is a good leader?

Why should Americans care?

You think the world admires British, Canadian, Chinese or European leaders?

No, the point is, lying is such a natural instinct for him, he can't even be honest with a weather report.
