Good news on the way for dilapidated Chiang Mai 700 Years Stadium

Sanook reported that the main stadium at the "Chiang Mai 700 Years" complex in Mae Rim is in urgent need of repair. 

 

The complex was built just 24 years ago for the 18th SEA Games hosted in the northern Thai city amid much fanfare. 

 

But now the main stadium pitch is a tangle of weeds and sand and the stands and walkways are in urgent need of repair. 

 

But good news was on the way. 

 

Regional sports representative Noppadol Kerngburi said that 165 million baht had been allocated to repair the 25,000 seater stadium in Don Kaew sub-district. It is the biggest such facility in the province. 

 

Over the next two months a plan will be formulated for what renovations need to be done with the stadium expected to be fully repaired five months after that.

24years, Geez! I saw the headline and thought oh its 700 years old, that makes sense as to why it looks so <deleted>, and the last time i saw it was 20yrs ago????????

For that amount of $, I hope they get the pools re-done and weight area revamped!  Geez, that much money for yard work and a bit of cement seating!

I like the fact that have allocated the money before they have formulated what needs to be done

"Cart before the horse" syndrome again.

Surely you identify what renovations need to be done, normally with costed and timescale options then apply for funding based on those options/budget available.

They have a velodrome there too.  I wonder what they were thinking when it was built.

Looks like it hasn't been used in 700 years.  That is too bad, because watching track races is fun and it could bring some revenue to bike shops, not too mention getting people involved in racing.  
There is certainly no shortage of people riding bicycles in Chiang Mai.
