Taxing a car in a different Province to where it is Registered

Featured Replies

Couple of questions I would appreciate some guidance on:

1. Can you Tax a car at any Transport Office in Thailand or does it have to be at an office within the Province where the car is registered?

2. My car is 6 years old at time of next Tax Renewal so I do not think I need the car tested until the following year when it will be 7 years old. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1 not 100 percent sure because I've never done it but yes I think that's possible.

2 yes seven years for cars and trucks 5 years for motorcycles.

1. Any province

You can also buy compulsary insurance and pay the tax at most 7/11 (A Thai citizen id card is required, so bring your GF or another Thai with you if you plan to do this)

2. Yes

Far as I know you have to register the car at your local office. However, I am curious to know if the annual tax can be paid elsewhere?

Thanks for that. Though I await other responses as, this being Thailand, it may well vary from one office to another.

Our motorcycle was purchased and registered in Udon Thani. We moved to Sakon Nakhon 2 years ago and wifey renews the tax/insurance at a local agent without any issues.

DLT website  clearly states (a half decent Google translation):

Vehicle inspection and compulsory insurance can also be done at any location.

It's a computerised system nowadays and has been for years. Just go to the local DLT which is near you. With older vehicles it's even easier. There are many more registered check-stations than DLT centres.

I have a Mitsubishi Triton registered in Rayong Province almost 7 years ago.  All my subsequent road tax payments have been made at Banglamung (Pattaya) DLT in Chonburi Province.
