I’ll confirm Frank as a good source of information on the area.

For Thai food there are a couple of restaurants a few kilometers out of town on the right hand side as you head towards Surin. One has a live band singing the usual mix of Thai and country style music.

Another place with seafood. Head across the bridge on the way to Surin, turn right at the traffic lights and head towards that big tourist attraction temple with the large animal figures. About 1 KM up the road on the left side you will see a large restaurant with a coke sign out front.

If you like cooking at the table, try the Moo Yung (sp) restaurants on the left, before the road widens, as you drive towards Ubon. One of them has a big screen TV and shows music videos and soccer matches.

First of all thanks all for your info on Sisaket.

I only had time to stay one night this time and made a point of visiting Frank's 'Living in the past'.

Great guy with very kind wife and charming dog in a quiet part of town behindthe police station.

Good farang food and drinks. Pizza seems to be a specilaity but went for scnitzels which was very good.

As far as Khun Han is concerned, I mostly had all my meals in private homes.

A good place is on the left side of the road just before th Krung Thai bank.

Typical Thai food. The owner is a policeman and the food is great and very crowded.

I stayed a few nights at the only hotel in Khun Han whci is very basic but good value at 350 baht for a/c rooms Bathrooms have believe it or not not only showers but a full bath ! Rooms are dated but it is clean. The hotel restaurant serves decent food but a little over priced for the locals.

If you have a sweet tooth thers is a small shop/cafe selling all the coffees and ice creams yolu may want nealry opposite the police guy's restaurant on the way into town.

Hi Krub,

Yep I've stayed at the hotel quite a few times and have been to the restaurant there which also doubles up as a karaoke place. I know the ice cream/coffee place you mean and have been there several times too.

One other place I like to eat is the sit down bbq near the river and market which opens at nightime on the path. I haven't tried the restaurant you mentioned opposite the ice cream place, thought they were just carts there.

I've been to Khun Han about half a dozen times as my TG is from there. I quite like the village life but need to learn thai as when I go there I feel so stupid!! That's my main aim when I come out later this year - learn thai, well the basics at least first which will enable me to have a bit of a conversation.

Where do you live incidentally?

Hi Stam,

I have not seen the bbq place and cannot locate it off hand. it is my first visit to Khun Han so need a lot to lear/discover.

I have been commuting between Thaialnd and Japan for the last 3 years but mainly in Uttaradit (North)

However I dicoverred this part of the country and really start to like it very much....

If all goes well I probably will settle for the moment just south of Khun Han in Tambon Kathom 3-4 km past the very new gas station with the new 7-11 store.

I managed the drive from Suv airport in a rent-a-car in just over 7 hours allowing for a few stops which not bad at all on very good roads.

The village of Khun Han has all you need and is very compact (post office, bank, very clean and decent government hospital, even a direct semi VIP bus service twice a day to Mochit, etc)
