“if you knew the line of work he’s in.” ….hmmmmm (puffing Sherlock pipe)…must be Black Op’s in Patong…I suspected this 60 posts ago, yes, it’s all clear now, Watson, the Colonel's back in town…

  • I see this all the time...it's called Short Time Syndrome (STS)

Sad that a 1st post has to be so worrying.

Phone switched off means i don't want to be contacted...or empty battery/broken phone....and you know what happens around patong right? With all those girls and lookalikes?

he's using a new phone... Understand what's happening in Patong, but to be incommunicado like that all of a sudden...

it is worrying, to me at least. Because he's a friend.

You said you were leaving tomorrow so does he need to return or pay before you leave?

Solly, i thought it was a new mall in BKK...for phuket i would check patpong...and call him in an hour again, guess his phone was empty or the massage is over.

There is no Patpong in Phuket! Its in Bangkok. Stop giving useless advice which only betrays your ignorance!

Well, I don't think he's conning me. He's a foreigner, makes more money than I do.

yes, I'm leaving tmrow. Technically he does need to pay me, but doesn't have to be before I leave. We see each other often.

I've seen his bank accounts. Spoke to his friend in the US. We're very close.

Yes it's probably the only thing you can be sure of, technically or not.

Agreed, sounds fishy.

so how much was the ''loan''?

Usualy more the scam is elaborate and take time

(Here 1 year was necessary with all the network to put in place

with fake friends, money in bank and so on) and more the sum is high

The red light alert must be ''why on earth someone having more money than me has to borrow me money'' but of course they only have a good reason, and they are very professional acting in the best way at the best moment, and the victim is trapped.

Sound very little, but who knows, i have seen guys doing stupid things

and acting in a miserable way for just some dollars,

Have you tried to contact his friends in the US?

If they do not answer also, at least you can stop your search.

Have not, figured I'd just search for him myself. Will do that if he's been missing for more than 12 hrs. or before my flight tmrow

I'm asking for advices, and this isn't something I'd like to play with. I was reading up on news on what to do if someone missing in Thailand and saw a resource link for ThaiVisa. Also, yeah I can not to know about short time is, because like I said for the umpteenth time, I go to Thailand for work, not like y'all who goes to Thailand for a "short time". If you don't wanna offer advices, then don't. But don't downplay things that could've been serious. <snip>

Has your friend somehow changed his behaviour? Could he be on drugs? Druggies are the best liars on this planet.

Not trying to offend you, or your friend, but that sounds very fishy. He wasn't in the toilet, his phone switched off, perhaps he doesn't want to see you.

If that's true, you've lost some money, but learned one more lesson. Don't trust other people.

Perhaps he's met a ladyboy, didn't want you to see his "other side" and went for some hours to a hotel room. That would explain a lot.

Best of luck finding your friend.

It does sound weird that a close friend behaves like that.

When I want to shake off an ugly/annoying Thai bird, I usually tell her,

"I go toilet, see u in a bit". Then I'm gone.

Looks like OP's pal borrowed my playbook.

He could be. Definitely very fishy, not sure what to make of this. I've changed my flight to the later one today.

Well,  not much more you can do. Sounds like he's done a runner / bender whatever you want to call it.

He should have had the decency to contact you and let you know what his problem is.
