Chumphon: Ex village chief wanted to kill the whole family - kids and all - after 10 million loan wasn't repaid

A former kamnan (village chief) of a sub-district of Chumphon in southern Thailand has told investigators how anger over an unpaid series of loans led to him trying to kill an entire family.

Sunan Ramadorn, 65, a wealthy durian farmer shot three people dead including a 13 year old girl who was having breakfast before going off to a special school lesson. Two other children fled as he tried to shoot them in the back.

Dead at a house in Khun Krathing sub-district were Jinda Thongphrom, 61, and her daughter Pornthip, 38. They were shot by Sunan - also known as "Kamnan Khai" - with a 9 mm gun.

After killing them at a table outside their house the former kamnan went inside and shot 13 year old Naipaporn dead as she ate breakfast. The M1 student was just about to go off to a special class and was found slumped over her food.

Two other who were also in the house - Portnthip's 15 year old daughter and a 12 year old son - fled through a back door as the kamnan tried to murder them too with his gun.

On Sunday Pol Maj-Gen Wimon Phitakburapha, the Chumphon provincial police chief, interrogated Sanan who gave the following account of what led up to the carnage.

He said that for many years Jinda and him were neighbors who were more like relatives. He had a thriving 30 rai durian business that netted him a five million baht turnover a year.

She often borrowed 100,000 to 200,000 baht - there were no problems.

But in 2014 Jinda and her daughter Pornthip spoke of a woman called Kanokwan or "Nok" who was living in the US. They said her husband had died and that she needed to borrow money to secure a 50 million baht inheritance that she would then invest back in Thailand.

Sunan said that he gave her 200,000 baht without a contract after speaking with her over the phone. But as the years passed the matter was unresolved and he was continually asked for more money. He described himself as a bit of a soft touch when it came to lending money.

Every time he got his durian money she seemed to know about it and come begging for more cash. He claimed that over the years he parted with 13 million baht.

Eventually he suspected that he had been duped and demanded all his money back.

Two days before the shooting he said that Jinda said that ten million baht had been transferred to her to give to him - this turned out to be nonsense and he went to the house to confront Jinda and her daughter.

He told investigators that he lost control when they said to him: "You're a fool for lending her money - you'll have to go to court to try and get it back".

He decided they all had to die. He shot Jinda and her daughter and then went to kill her children.

He has been charged with murder and weapons offences.

Pol Maj-Gen Wimon said that the criminal case was the police's responsibility. Regarding the money that was a separate issue that the relatives would deal with themselves through the courts when they have dealt with their grief.

A firing squad seems most appropriate in this case...????

He WAS the firing squad. Maybe she had it coming... maybe... but shooting kids is ruthless.

His sob-story's got to go at the top of the list of excuses next to brake-failure.

Unfortunately for him, pre-meditated murder will get him life in prison, if he's lucky.

He could afford to give her 13 million baht. The durian business must be great. Was that his only income?

Ex Headman Probably not, Not the smartest tree in the durian paddock isn't he.   :jap::jap:

How did the guy become a village chief?
How was he able to "grant" THB 10 million loans?
Nobody in Thailand is stupid enough to loan THB 10 million without adequate collateral.

This story does not tally, whichever way you turn it. Regretfully it will be very much "yesterday's news", a girl is dead, two others have no parents anymore and the village chief still did not get his money back - go figure!

Life (meaning life) in a Thai prison cell may be sufficient punishment for murdering the adult(s) who scammed him.

But, IMHO, murder of innocent children deserves a death sentence.

Bit contradictory isn't it? You wish him a mercy death instead of life-long rotting in a Thai jail. Strange.

sick and sad.   I had loaned a girl $600 to in July.  I am a softie.  Then I saw her gambling at the casino several times the last few months.  So her sob story was more BS than I had suspected.  I don't sweat $600 too much, but the idea and her actions sure <deleted> me off.  One night after I watched her cash out $1700 after hitting a small slot jackpot, she gave me $200!  Unbelievable gall.  So this weekend I again saw her at the casino and as she saw me she started to scurry away.  I yelled at her and she stopped.  I told her that if she didn't give me the last $400 I would be stopping by her work location and her co workers and boss would know about her debt and and actions.  That night she had apparently already maxed out her debit card for ATM withdrawals, but could still do a Point of Sale cash withdrawal.  So she went to the ATM, got the receipt, went to the cashier's cage and then gave me the $400.

I can understand that Guy in this article being incredibly mad, frustrated, feeling embarrassed at being taken advantage of etc.  But to kill over it?  Does he think he would get a way with it?  Killing kids?
