Confusing email from SCB. What does it mean?
I also received an email and a text message, but mine said: "Your waiver of verification by face recognition has been cancelled. Please bring your ID card and mobile phone registered with the Bank, and contact the Bank's branch or channel prescribed by the Bank to take a photo of your face to be used for verification by face recognition for making transaction pursuant to conditions prescribed by the Bank in the next time." So I dutifully went to the SBC branch in Phuket, waited 40 minutes to speak with someone, showed them the email, and it resulted in a lot of people talking back and forth in Thai. Someone called the bank help line and handed me the phone and the person apologized that face recognition for foreigners wasn't available. I testily asked, "So why did you send me an email and tell me to do it?" The person apologized again and told me I received that email in error. Duh. -

Rabies vaccine?
It was you use of the term "endemic" that was incorrect. I’ve had the rabies vaccine and boosters — and I’m glad I did. I was bitten some years ago — though technically it was more of a “scratch.” It was from a pedigree Asian Boxer, owned by a hotel… and that hotel was owned by a policeman. Turns out, the dog had already attacked several people, and locals who knew better would cross the street to avoid it. Treatment was cheap back then — the scariest part was actually the motorcycle taxi to the hospital. He clearly thought it was a great excuse to drive like a maniac. In Thailand, it’s a legal requirement to vaccinate your pets. That includes your neighbours’ animals too. The Soi Dog Foundation works with smaller local rescue groups to run CNVR operations — Capture, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return. In Phuket, this program has reduced the stray dog population from around 70,000 in 2003 to about 7,000 in 2024.Their biggest current concern? Rabies coming onto the island via unvaccinated puppies sold at markets. SDF also runs campaigns in Bangkok, Samui, and other areas. If you’re worried about strays or rabies where you live, it’s worth checking whether CNVR work has been done locally. And just FYI: Culling dogs doesn’t solve the problem — it makes it worse. Culls disrupt the local dog population and actually increase the spread of rabies. -

Used to be possible to make intl calls from CAT @ Pattaya Tai - still today?
The link you have supplied is twelve years old. If you can still get one of those cards, you register it to your mobile phone number in so you don't have to dial a 12 digit code every time you want to make a call. Cost to USA via 009 was 1 baht per minute. U.K. was 1.5 baht per minute to landlines and 6 baht per minute to mobiles. VOIP applications are considerably cheaper. For instance, from 0.25 baht per minute to the U.K. That's one sixth of the NT card price. But the NT card may be an option for some, if available. -

Israel has pushed the US to use its ‘bunker buster’ bomb on Iran. Here’s what the weapon can
No, the question is "how close are they to a bomb", the questions should be: 1. Are they developing a bomb? 2. Once developed, what do they intend to use the bomb for? 3. Why do they refuse to stop developing a bomb? As I said, you can call it preemptive, but I believe Iran has been at war with Israel since October 7th. -

Is paying the bar to take a girl out of the bar justified? Or just a scam?
Yup I heard infact am with one for 7 months & she walked. Her family is very proud of her, and no I don't support them. When we stop there I take everyone out to dinner because compared to home it's a bargain here. No regrets & everyone's happy so far. -
