Cheese

Featured Replies

No have.

Big C Extra has an unit with cheeses from different countries.

My observations are that Makro seems to have the largest selection of cheeses here at the best prices.  Big C has a very small selection of small sizes at tremendously high prices (although I no longer eat cheese).  Good luck

Makro has Bleu de Bresse, Brie, Camenbert, Gorgonzola, Roquefort?

I really hope so.

If you ever happen to be doing a Bangkok run, Central at Chidlom have a dedicated cheese room in the Food Hall with some delightful stinkies, and a great range of different-aged Manchego and other fabulous Aus/NZ/Euro hards and softs.

Should I post in a food thread?

No I shouldn't, but...

I support that BigC Extra on Klang (central) rd. has some good stuff.

And the Casino own-brand is not overly excessive.

Friendship also has a good selection.

For my taste, I would not expect anything for less than 1000 Baht/kg as decent.

Imported French/Swiss stuff is over 2000.

I tried some Camembert and it was plain awful. Completely tasteless rubber style.

Brie and Camembert: 100% at BigC Extra. Own-brand and imported.

The others likely but I don't search for, so see yourself.

I regularly buy Camembert and Brie at BigC (Casino brand).

That's in Udon Thani and BigC Extra in Pattaya has way more choices.

Some have all the luck.

Go to Villa Market and grab an original French brand Camembert/Brie or the like.

Small piece for 400 or so

Kinda surprised no one has mentioned Siamburi ????

They have Cheddar, and maybe Lancashire and/or Leicester, but don't think they have an offer of French and Italian cheese.

You could if you knew me find as many as 10 500g blocks of Cathedral extra mature lurking in my fridge i'm feeling like a millionaire lottery winner here for sure????

ok here we go.

siamsburys top of khao noi.

basda foods soi wat boon kanchana.

if you can't get out of pattaya centre, the usual suspects- foodland and friendship.

If you hit makro at the right time, they sometimes have deals on decent cheddars, big blocks though.

Correct, and it's not my kind of taste.

Sometimes some Emmenthal cheese which is quite good and the Romano (Parmesan style) is good too. (IMO)

I don't know how they even sell this cheese. 3-400 baht for a small slice, who pays that? The cheese must go off before it's ever sold.

Because it's not a specialised cheese shop and the choices are limited.

Thats quite right but I am also not aware of any specialised cheese shops in Pattaya so we have to make do with what we have got

TOPS Central Festival should have an ok range.

Yes, I'll second that, if you really want a good selection of cheese and don't mind paying top buck this is the place to go. I love Brie de Meaux, and was buying it there at an eye-watering price until I started importing it from home. They had several other top notch brie's as well, at similarly high prices. Not different makes of brie, you understand, but actually different versions of the cheese.

OTOH if you just want a limited range of cheap cheese, then Siamburi's is the place to go.
