Sleepy driver slams into Sattahip tree

SATTAHIP:--A sleepy driver is lucky to be alive after dozing off behind the wheel and slamming into a tree in Najomtien.

Eakapoj Wiboonsatapornchia said he was driving from Sattahip to Bangkok when he fell asleep on Sukhumvit. His car veered off the road and collided with a Burmese padauk tree opposite Ban Hinwong School and burst into flames.

Two fire trucks extinguished the fire and Eakapoj suffered only minor injuries.

I'd contribute to one for the tree.

Obviously an illegal migrant tree was the cause of the accident.

Even they'd have no blinkered idea...

If he's claiming it was a microsleep and the tree was damaged, I reckon it's pulp fiction.

I'd like to know - if he actually had insurance - as to whether falling asleep at the wheel is covered ?

We read about these accidents all the time; drivers falling asleep at the wheel (six bottles of Tiger does that to me). There are often fatal consequences plus huge medical bills for the injured.  Surely Thai Insurance companies are not dumb enough to pay out in these circumstances.  Even brake failure (the most popular excuse) could be put down to negligence (lack of servicing) - do they pay out in these cases?

Let's hope the tree doesn't start any splinter groups against Thai drivers.

Tree has been transfered to another branch to an inactive post ,Trunk and disorderly charges pending

Narcolepsy is rampant here.
