This morning it was this:

He had to be ferried by specialised seaplane because his damaged lungs could not cope with high altitude travel.

This afternoon it was a boat.

Do Thais know the difference between the two modes of transport?

Sea plane, flying boat! ????

He sold his house to go travelling, his parents have a holiday home in Spain as well as their own home, so not exactly hard up are they? so why the need for funding by others..........

It's the same thought process that got them two homes, catch the wind while it is blowing.....coronavirus

If it's just flu, so be it. If it's something else that is not being disclosed as not to scare the few tourists in high season, then it's an issue of international interest.

Wish him a fast recovery and all the best to the parents.

I have the luxury of living in a krap village in the middle of nowhere special so the chances of being in contact with a Chinese tourist or a Thai who is regularly in contact with Chinese tourists is extremely remote.  Never the less in this day and age of mass tourism any problem virus will probably effect millions of people before it can be brought under control.  So,  if you haven't already.....stock up on face masks,  rubber gloves and antiseptic before panic sets in and the shelves end up empty.

"a severe strain of flu"

Since they claimed that they pumped out 2kg of mucus out of his lungs, I'd say that's an understatement!

Still, it's deadly.  You're more likely to have a heart attack, for one.

The Flu kills an estimated 12,000 – 61,000 people every year in America.

We're still years away from an universal flu vaccine.

This story can be read in the sun newspaper online ...... just google his name and sun newspaper to read the full story

Thank you but I'd rather eat my own feet than read the Sun.

It's a comic, not a newspaper.

'doctors have since confirmed the 32 year old, who hails from Lancashire in the north of England, does not have the Chinese virus but a severe strain of flu.'

A doctor is a medical person, works in a hospital, wears a white coat.

Always get an adult to read with you.

You need some help too.

A doctor, a Thai doctor - who is a medical person, works in a hospital and wears a white coat, told my wife 5 years ago that my right hand and to a lesser extent, my left hand,  would not be functional once it had healed after breaking both wrists badly in a car accident and I would never use them again.

He told me to go home and put my hands in warm water.

I went home and extensively iced both wrists and hands regularly during the day, every day.

I contacted a physiotherapist in the UK and underwent a series of exercises for 2 months.

As I type this, using both hands and most fingers, there is only a 0.05% of numbness in my right wrist which does not affect my ability to do anything.

Despite the fact that a doctor, a Thai doctor - who is a medical person, who works in a hospital and wears a white coat, told my wife 5 years ago that I would never use them again!

Is my reading ability OK?

Good he has insurance.

A gofundme page to support parents!

I'm afraid travelling and staying here with your son is a normal expense in the curcumstances that unless parents are destitute they should finance themselves, just like all other families do and has been done in the past before online begging began. Son has insurance so no unmanigable bills and so the family pay their own travel expenses to fly out and stay. An unexpected cost but that's part of life.

Hope for a speedy recovery.

I'm with you... I hate online begging. Carry your own weight parents.

I'm sure his parents were too busy to post a gofundme page.  Much more common are friends who want to do something to help the family- and show their support.  Which is a reflection of the fact that they have friends.  Not that they're begging.

Personally, if I have flu-like symptoms that linger for 7 days, I start a ten-day course of Avelox. So far, I have been cured every time and don't have severe side-effects.

I wonder how many people are aware of when their infection progresses from viral to bacterial.  My hunch is that, given the standard medical advice, most people try to just wait the flu out without going to the hospital for tests.

+1

If my sinus drainage gets settled into my lungs, I'm in for at least 30 days of bronchitis without antibiotics.  With antibiotics, maybe a week.  And that's with me in otherwise good health.  Smokers, drinkers, and the immune compromised are at serious risk of bacterial pneumonia.  Anyone who thinks that antibiotics aren't useful in a case of the flu hasn't thought through the next phase.

Edit:  In this case, I'm still wondering if he has been poisoned with phosphine, or a vaping agent.  Even the Chinese coronavirus...  Given how devastating it could be for tourism, I'm sure there are political pressures afoot.

Yeah fine. We agreed that a doctor is a medical person who works in a white coat in a hospital. What did I get wrong?

You did read the bit about his insurance company agreeing to the decision to airlift him?

As some said before: the actual diagnosis doesn't really matter for Thailand's image. This morning ABC News talked about the human to human transmission of the virus and mentioned the case of the British tourist in Thailand ( even with photo).

Secondly,  you never take the flu lightly.  No matter how strong, fit and young you are. When I was 18 a schoolmate dies from the flu. And she was studying Pysical Education and trained a lot. Had the flu, went skiing before she completely recovered and died from a heart attack.

At 70 and having spent the 1st 20 years of my life in NZ, followed by a couple of Parisian winters, then the rest of my life in Melbin & Canbella, I don't think I've ever had the flu in my life.

Is that normal?

of course he does not have the Chinese Coronaviurs, would be bad for tourism.

Yes, as they tried to cover the shark attack in Hua Hin by claiming the wounds was made by sharp ends on the reef it's allowed to be suspicious ...

Hopefully the truth came at once this time ...

A British man who is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck down with flu-like symptoms, has not contracted the Chinese Coronavirus, it has been confirmed.

I feel very sorry for this poor bloke, but would  Thai doctors commit that they don't know what's wrong with a patient?

Of course, not.

I had to learn that the brutal way.

After a motorcycle accident, I was operated by a small-town doctor, who thought he could fix my four times broken leg right next to the Tibia head.

He put a plate and many screws in and the x-ray was so insane that even nurses could see that it was done wrongly.

The Tibia head was so out of order that i started sweating when looking at the monthly x-rays.

The Tibia head was also affected, and the guy just put a plate in a way that other doctors I had to visit were asking me who did such a terrible job.

I had to see this guy every month, waiting all day long together with a few hundred others. The half-god in white only showed up once a week and always late.

After eight months on crutches and some visits to other doctors who knew their job well, I had to go back to Europe to get it done correctly.

The joke was that I have got Thai social security, and the Sappasit hospital in Ubon R. does artificial knee joints, which I needed.

But he must have thought that sending me to a specialist with the needed equipment would make him "lose face." One signature, referring me to a hospital where they know what they do, had almost destroyed my life.

Now I know what the word suffering means.

I hope the poor bloke gets well soon. Perhaps another hospital and other doctors would immediately find what's causing his illness?

I don't trust teachers, cops, and doctors. And I know why. BTW, a second opinion is always useful in the Land of Whys.

The attached photo shows the leg after eight months of suffering when German doctors couldn't believe that another doctor had done such a terrible job.

They couldn't even understand that i could put my body weight on this leg without it falling apart...

Please see the Thai doctor's job on this attached photo.

In a land where you can't find prostitutes in the biggest brothel of Thailand, no wonder.

Let's hope that International doctors have a look at him. I'm certain that he's got what they deny.

PHUKET: A British actor recovering in Bangkok has not been infected by the Wuhan coronavirus, Phuket Public Health Office Chief Thanit has Sermkaew confirmed (today) Jan 21.

Ashley Shorley, a 32-year-old actor who has appeared in popular UK television shows Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, was brought to Phuket from Phi Phi Island after his condition deteriorated from a lung infection, Mr Thanit explained.

It's fairly useless though. The cat is out of the bag and it's just a matter of time before more cases pop up. After the Chinese New Year there will be carriers aplenty, ready to spread it to outside.

Every news article published from Thailand says he doesn't have this coronavirus, then there's this :

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1230876/Coronavirus-latest-china-virus-british-tourist-ashley-shorley-thailand

and this among others

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/china-virus-coronavirus-sars-deaths-british-tourist-case-thailand-a9292026.html

Influenza doesn't generally do this to younger people

If there is ever an outbreak of something very nasty they will 100% lie about it happening until it later becomes obvious that it's actually happening.

I'm not saying that it is but that's what they would do.....

Yes, it's normal and believe me you don't want it. It's not nice, especially at your age.
