At present, 10,394 close contacts have been traced, 1,291 medical observations have been lifted, and 9,103 people are still receiving medical observations.

Meanwhile the authorities as we know have the means to control who enters LOS. I imagine a few visitors is seen as "their" problem, once some HI=SO locals realize that virus doesn't respect status some belated action may occur.

Apart from the tradegy of the health emergency it is probably the worst publicity possible for an economy so skewed to tourism.

In the karmic wheel the only upside may be the Binturong/Schleichkatzen  in my avatar and similar civets, marmots, genets , snakes and bats which may out of the restaurants and markets and back in the wild where they belong, and any foreigners tourists who are uninfected may be welcome albeit with health insurance.

Proving what?  The incubation could be 2 weeks.  You're not claiming that it is only contagious in China, are you?

They were stating facts. Are you that uneducated that you can’t understand what is being reported.

"If it reaches a point where public health is in danger, we will take (more) action, Anutin said"

Why not take action BEFORE that point is reached?

The Prayuth administration’s lack of action is down to the fact that they don’t know what to do, they’re waiting for advice from Chinese authorities

OKAY, but there is still dual pricing on that forgiveness thingy. ????

They are waiting for more brown envelopes from China.

They can all be contagious and not show one symptom.

That's certainly a dead-end job.

Add it to the list of "Dead end jobs" in Thailand.

They need to pull  their heads out of China's rear end and take some serious action.

The Public Health Minister stated that detecting infected patient’s is a good sign, because it shows our system is efficient...

The problem with this statement and his argument is that the taking of the temperature of arrivals at the airport does not account for the corona virus “incubation” period.
All the new arrivals that pass the temp test may be in the incubation period and are now in the population.

Cognitive Dissonance is the word.

Saw the public health minister on the bus.  He assured me everything is under control

Thai Health Authorities confirm two more cases of Coronavirus in Thailand, including a case in Hua Hin. They have stressed the fact that five of the eight have fully recovered and returned to China and the other three are being treated in good condition and urged the public to stay calm.

That was a quick recovery then - if recovered why not stay longer?

Passengers should be checked both before boarding the planes and on arrival I would of thought.

I love this mentality “we can control the situation and very confident about it” as long as nothing happens they do think that but if anything bad happens they immediately fall aparts and clueless. Usually the intelligence people are hesitating while the fools are always very confident in everything.

UPDATE: Transmission of #coronoavirus estimated at 2.6 by another research group (lower than the 3.8 initial reports). But 2.6 is still extremely bad —each infected person will infect 2.6 others. Even the authors admit #CoronaOutbreak containment will be very difficult.

Are they wearing those masks because of the virus or because of the pollution

More nonsense spouted by ignorant officials, par for the course in Thailand. They've detected eight. How many haven't they detected?

Well Thailand, your PM wants to suck up to China and have millions of Chinese tourists? Better be careful of what you ask for. Your tourism industry will ruin Thailand and not be its salvation.

Just keep importing the dirty bastards ( Chinese) the filthiest race of people on the planet. Closely followed by the Indians good luck with your latest immigration drive. 555

"Based on numbers during the SARS outbreak in 2003, three months of reduced travel from China would result in 50 billion baht (£1.2 billion) of lost tourism revenue, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, said."

Obviously the Minister is using a different exchange rate than the banks! Does he know anything about a possible devaluation of the Baht?

This might be more serious than being reported. Got this in a email this morning for my brother in law is is a Doctor who travels often to china  and advises at several hospitals. He has contacts.

From contacts in China
Reported in northern China
Knowing the Chinese it is underreported"

When you climb into bed with the Chinese Government, to be their concubine, you can't complain about catching fleas. Thailand's government has sought this "cozy" relationship with China, now the Thai people will realize who the government prioritizes over the citizens.

At least the officials can rest comfortable knowing they can leave under cover in their shiny new submarines.

But...but....you can't bring that to people's attention! Where is the outrage potential?

In China 56 old people died but 92 others recovered. You aren't reading that either.

It's flu, people catch it every winter in the UK. 95 pensioners died last year alone.

Yet we get a bunch of snowflake pansies being craftily manipulated by the press unleashing their racist tendencies on here and attempting to justify them.

Here's the headline. You can't justify racism. My last word on the subject.

This is serious. Borders with China should be closed now.

Why are they not doing screening at Koh Ssmui Airport, which is an international airport and we have thousands of Chinese visiting the Island?  Typical inefficient Government.

According to other news sources XI is ordering all tourist flights out of China suspended from today.

Until next month.

He said flights that had already left would be monitored.

I was on a flight from Chiang Mai to BK a few days ago(full of chinese coughing and sneezing) and became sick as a dog 3 days later with terrible flew.

Been in bed 2 days and heaps of vitamin c and para +water and magnesium, I'm on the mend but it was sure nasty.

Maybe this flight ban is why there were no Chinese in for breakfast this morning at the Indra BK.

Everyone in BK is wearing masks.

You should read up on viruses. It is not just a normal flu. It is a NEW virus!

If it was, do you really think that China would close down huge cities?

It could be media hype, as you say, and i hope you are right, but it could also be a dangerous global threat.

Isn't it a bit too early to take strong positions ?

They should do away with the fingerprint scanners - they would be a major vector for this disease. Only on the grounds of health risk mind you :)

As well, they should be. The army deserves all the enmity, vitriol and anger the people can muster up.

But, do not worry. After all, as I previously said: We are in very safe hands. After all the health minister Anuthin was formerly an engineer, and has worked in many private companies including the position of Managing Director of Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited. So, as usual he was picked for his extensive level of experience, in dealing with health emergencies.

The Prayuth administration. Always count on them to consider the public good above all else, to always select talent based on experience and merit, and to always do the right thing by their people.

The aim of the masks is to help prevent droplet infection from coughing/sneezing.  If everyone wears one (infected and uninfected people) it will help reduce the spread (which is why China has made them compulsory in Wuhan).  But you also need to wash hands after removing your mask, and wear a new one each day.

The aim of all the public health measures is to reduce the Ro (average number of cases passed on per person) to less than 1.0 - as then the epidemic will end.

also called the reproduction number. the virus will decline as the number of human host diminish either through immunity or death.
