Hi all,

On Monday 10 February at 8 AM (our time) the Academy Awards will be airing.  Unless one has premium cable service, it’s near-impossible to watch here.

But there is a workaround!

You’ll need a VPN (virtual proxy network) account, WiFi and a computer.

Set your VPN server location to an Australian city (I chose Melbourne).

Then Google-up Nine-Now, an Australian TV channel that provides online access.

It takes a minute or two to sign up for a free Nine-Now account, and you’ll need an Australian zip code (I chose 3000, which is specific to Melbourne) to get set up.

Once signed in, you can view the Oscars live on Nine-Now this Monday.

A nice little Oscars hack!

Now fellow posters, keep your snark for another thread.  Who cares if you hate the Academy Awards?  None of us do.

But if you’d like to tune in, this is a simple solution for the non-haters.

Userabcd,

Actually, this is incorrect.  It’s quite difficult to watch LIVE for free online unless on has a True cable account in Thailand.

Strangely, it is quite difficult to watch live online,  which is why I made this post.

Yes, later in the day the Academy Awards replay will be on YouTube and other outlets.

But live?  Not so much.

Cyril Sneer,

There are free VPN apps available on all operating systems.

Not the strongest or most secure, but they don’t have to cost $.

Oh, and I see how you derived your user name...

Any IPTV service will have it on one of their 1000's of channels in FHD and no VPN required.

I'm sure ustvnow on abc or cbs will be showing this live as they have done for all the other various award shows.
