Thaiger has video of the actual collision, as well as disturbing vision of attempts to revive the children.

Both drivers (won't call them captains) were speeding in the channel and neither seemed to attempt to swerve to avoid the other.

He must have run a red traffic light on the ocean so busy at all these intersections and blind corners there........ really, how hard can it be?

R.I.P my thoughts are with the families who lost a loved one.

No way should they have been travelling at the speeds they were in that channel.

Two drivers and a whole load of <deleted> that are supposed to be in charge of marine safety to blame.

Probably because swerving first would be a loss of face.

That video is just incredible. Seemed like no attempt by either to move. Maybe one of them was having that famous Thai excuse of a 'microsleep'.

It is been an real bad start to 2020 for this place in all aspects and I do not expect it to change.

Brake failure? RIP.

Brain failure plus not lose face by giving way. Plus far to fast in channel. Must be some sort of speed limit set by marina.

I am really sorry to say this but this country does not deserve any tourist the way it treats them ????

What an devastating drama for the parents left behind just holidaying and hoping to have a good time.

The land of smiles.

Slowly turning into the Land of stupidity.

When operating a boat in a channel, the speed limit if I am correct is 6 knots no wake. How can the government allow this sort of practice to continue. Thailand relies heavily on tourism, this sort of thing spread across the internet is very damaging to Thailand and its many people who rely on tourists to make a living.

  • Popular Post

If the Russians had not yet understood; now they will know that it is better to avoid Thailand if you want to come back alive from your holidays.

Deep thoughts for the dads and moms of these poor children who had not asked for such an end.

And during this time, the Minister of Tourism is looking for a solution to bring back the tourists in Thailand;
I especially believe that thanks to his brainless fellow citizens he does everything possible to see them flee and never come back.

It is  extremely sad to hear thisand my thoughts and prayers  genuinely go out to all killed and injured.  In another piece of news I see consideration for  taxing tourists. Simply  lessons of how to increase tourists from coming to Thailand  .. in line with a member of the government telling farang  they are not wanted if the do not wear masks.....  Amazing Thailand!

Two dead, 21 injured in Phuket as speedboats collide

Two Russian boys aged 12 and six succumbed to their injuries after two speedboats collided early on Monday (February 10) in Phuket.

The accident happened near Royal Marina Pier in Koh Kaew subdistrict, Muang district.

Officials rushed to investigate the scene along with rescue staff from Narenthorn Andaman Foundation. Twenty-three tourists, mostly Russian nationals, were rescued but hospitalised with injuries.

Twelve of the injured were rushed to Bangkok Phuket Hospital, one was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital, six were sent to Siriroj Hospital and four including the two Russian boys whose injuries proved fatal, were sent to Mission Hospital Phuket.

Police said the two boats were identified as ‘Payan 5’ registered under SeaStar Andaman Co Ltd and ‘Payan 9’ registered under Andaman Leisure Phuket Co Ltd.

The Payan 5 boat was travelling from Nga Peninsula in Ratsada subdistrict to pick up tourists at the pier when it collided with the Payan 9 boat which was full of tourists.

5 knots is the maximum speed in the channel, all boats are going at least 20 knots. I had a group of Korean sailors on a 3 week training, they went out once, they got so scared they never did it again

  • Popular Post

RIP children.  Again, no safety anywhere in Thailand.  Another avoidable accident.  There are no harbor police monitoring or checking boats, and even if there was, they would be paid off.  Thailand’s days are numbered as a tourist destination.

It has been like this since they introduced motorized vehicles and 'smart phones' in Thailand. Get used to it will take 2 or 3 generations until they learn this.

They say things will get worse before they get better ... tourism in Thailand as we know it is dying a very public death

They were speeding at a pretty alarming rate in such a small channel. I doubt anybody will be prosecuted for this, despite the 2 poor children who lost their lives

And adding even more complication to visa application at home country.

A wealthy German guy had such a hard time to get a multi entry tourist visa (METV).

(he wants to travel other SEA countries hassle free)

Last time Thailand is his clear message.

I hope the relevant authorities will immediately launch an investigation and bring to book the guilty party/parties. Nothing less than a long term jail sentence as well as severe fine for the company involved. Better yet, shutting the company down and banning the directors as well.

  • Popular Post

Mr. Anuthin, you don’t have to kick out the farang tourists....Soon nobody will visit here if accidents are not reducing ????

  • Popular Post

As noted 5 knots is the limit in that channel but it is very standard issue for most boats to come in at 25+.

Our company has an instant dismissal clause in the employment contracts if it is identified that the speed is exceeded and each boat has a GPS tracker so thankfully the crew threat this threat seriously.
