Taxi drivers in knife fight at Loei bus station - one had a sword, the other a flick-knife

Police and rescue services were called to Loei bus station in the north east of Thailand after two taxi drivers went at each other with a sword and a knife in an argument over loud music.

Thongchai Buntham, 56, had three stab wound to his abdomen. Samorn Kham-in, 51, had wounds to his right arm and neck.

Sanook said they were in a pool of blood. Nearby was a 17 cm flick-knife and a 70 cm "Samurai" sword.

Police heard that the pair had a long running feud.

On Monday night Thongchai arrived in his taxi and settled down for a sleep in his cab listening to music.

Samorn took exception to the loud music and told him to turn it down. When he didn't he phoned the other man's wife to get him to do so.

This prompted a violent altercation in which Thongchai retrieved a Samurai sword from his cab and attacked his rival who responded with the flick-knife.

Sanook reported that Samorn has been charged with deadly assault and being armed with a knife in public.

There was no mention of charges yet against the more seriously wounded man.

Just a flesh wounds, The monty python scetch come to mind ????

So the attacker using the sword wasn't charged.

But the defender using the knife was.

That doesn't sound right to me!

Of course it does. The guy with the sword must be 'in' with the police, more than the knife bloke.

Obvious, innit?

I have a degree in Thai logic, but a PhD in sarcasm .

Wonder what would be found if all taxis and tuk tuks were searched. Probably a mountain of weapons.

The big question? What is a taxi driver doing with a samurai sword in his car? Is that standard work equipment for Thai taxi drivers?

No.

Lucky he did not have ears cut off though that would have solved the feud forever????

True, he wouldn't be able to hear people hailing his taxi.

i'm sure it was just a misunderstanding. Please follow standard protocol:

1. Meet at Police station

2. Wai wai wai

3. Basket of Brands

4. 500 baht fine each

5. Carry on picking up passengers like nothing happened.

6. Mai pen rai

The cop who ran the beer bar next to my place had a large sword under the back seat of his car!!!

I doubt it was a Japanese sword. More likely one of those cheap Thai or Japanese style swords they have at some markets. Certainly not something a Samurai would've used!

And they wonder why Thailands tourist numbers are dropping....

If the environmental and health issues are not enough, add in the death/injuries at sea by incompetent boat crew, death on the road statistics, gun crime, street robbery.... then these two idiots confirm why taxis in Thailand are among the worst in the world.

I mean why does a taxi driver need  "samurai sword or a flick-knife"... maybe cut the sandwiches at break time?

Or perhaps pork chops or chop suey.

Have the Thai always been so hot headed and aggressive, or is it just being reported more nowadays?

Samorn took exception to the loud music and told him to turn it down.

Settled down to sleep to loud music? ????

this type of news will help bring back more tourists... TAT should promote that as " new entertainment coming to a place near you"

Really???? I just happened to use the same word as in the news. Of course it was not a real samurai sword. You really had nothing better to go, than make a remark on that. You life must really 5uck!

Lemonjelly, had the family history told to me over the years.

Trust me when I say it's being reported more now...

Usually, when you ask a Thai male to turn down his loud music, he responds by turning it UP! Persist with your request and he is likely to beat the <deleted> out of you.

And yes, Thais like to sleep listening to music, it is silence they cannot abide.

Outcome could have been quite different...

depending from which pocket he took something from image.jpeg.ca8fc046c1bab44cdcaf186817bccde7.jpeg

Loud rude attention seeking moron turns violent when asked to turn down his Thai boom boom box that he is so proud of and pulls a sword.

A very predictable response in Thai cultural.
