Thailand pulled out all the stops at a press conference to show they have the Covid-19 virus well under control.

At Hua Hin hospital there was the Prajuab Khirikhan governor Pallop Singhaseni, local TAT representative Soraya Homcheun, Region 5 health representative Dr Amporn Benjaphonphitak and a whole host of doctors, nurses, presentation baskets and cash payments.

They were joined by a taxi driver who had taken a 73 year old Wuhan woman from Suvarnabhumi airport to the resort on January 23rd.

The lady tested positive for coronavirus first and was taken for treatment to Bangkok.

As part of the screening processes in place in Thailand the taxi driver was kept under observation. On the 28th of January a sample sent to Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok came back positive and he was admitted for 14 days.

Both the Chinese woman and the Thai taxi driver have now fully recovered.

He is married father of three Samith, 45, a native of Hua Hin.

He thanked the medical staff for their brilliant care.

He told the media that it was a shock when he was informed that he was in a cab with a person who had the virus.

Thaivisa, notes that the long journey to Hua Hin would have meant he was exposed to infection for several hours.

He said he was even more shocked when his own test came back positive. He feared for the health of his wife and children and the stigma that was already building up on social media.

He said that he had a bad fever and high temperature for a couple of days but after the administering of medication he got steadily better.

He also felt greatly relieved when his wife and children tested negative.

He advised taxi drivers to wear masks and perform frequent cleaning of their cabs to avoid what happened to him.

Go team Hua Hin!

Walking around HH you would never know there was a virus or even a shortage of tourists except the Chinese are gone.

Restaurants packed every night with big fat white farang couples and families.

Happy days are here again, with exception of the horrendous air pollution it's perhaps the best time to visit hua him!

But it may be another story when the guests travel back home and transit through Swampy, amongst a group of sneezing Chinese ... ????

Maybe If you take a round with wide margin but get closer and up front with locals and they are as informed as anyone else and take their precautions.
