Government health minister: Watch out for "dirty farangs" spreading the virus in Thailand

Featured Replies

I am NOT defending him or his comments, and I agree with most other posts on this thread. Also, I don't own or ever wear a mask. Finally, he makes his outrageous gaffes while not wearing a mask himself.

But let's not forget that the masks are apparently useless in preventing the wearer from becoming infected, but if the wearer is infected then the mask will reduce potential infections of others.

Now I don't claim that this fella knows or understands this stuff, but there is an argument for berating people for not wearing a mask because they could be infected and don't care about protecting those around them.

Maybe he's just trying to compete in the Stupidity Stakes with his fellow ministers.

Wonder if the health minister actually washes his hands after a trip to the toilet before sitting down to eat.

I can tell you from personal experience both at the local gas station stops and in major hotels in Bangkok, most Thai men do not wash their hands after they use the lavatory... I find it completely disgusting and I find this moron completely out of his mind.

Don't worry, this will hit the international press big time, much bigger even then his previous stupid comments last month.

I'm sure it will be very beneficial for the tourism industry. NOT?

Indeed. Not only because it's the second racist gaffe he's made in as many weeks, but these latest remarks are far more inflammatory than the first time around (I'm fluent in Thai and understand the cultural context too). Although this time there was no talk of 'kicking out' said farang, calling people of a certain race 'dirty and unkempt' is racist beyond belief. It's like what some Thais think of Indians but wouldn't dare put down in writing or say in public. It's unacceptable and inexcusable, especially for someone holding a position like his.

I have lived in Thailand for 15 years and love the place but my wife her family and myself think thin health minister is a discusting little man. All I do is try to respect the country that I have adopted as my home and people like him make it very very hard.

Yep, I've observed the same. Also, restaurant workers go to the loo and don't wash their hands afterwards.

And 11 idiots added to the infected by sharing a glass and a cigarette... All Thai ! Have a shower in order to die clean..

Mind you, he and Trump must get on well together, after all they both agree that that virus does come from Farang countries (as far as I know China is Farang).

China is not farang.

Farang = white westerner.

Chinese = Jek

Masks are useless and only for medical staff unless you yourself have any kind of  symptoms.

Don't Anutin understand this?  Obviously Not, as he hasn't got a brain.

Good observation but then he needs to practice what he preaches. Unless he's wearing a mask 100% of the time at work and when he's out in public, then he's a hypocrite and a fraud. Also, last I checked, there is no law that says you need to wear a mask, if there was, I'd probably be out of Thailand and never come back...such laws are far too Orwellian to accept. Granted, I doubt it could be effectively enforced when they can't even get most people to wear motorcycle helmets.

Dirty ??  Let's Talk about Air Pollution !! The Minister of public Health said he was in

Chiang Mai last week. Then he saw that Chiang Mai is the MOST polluted City in the

WORLD.  The AQ scale today is 243. VERY Unhealthy.

But Not ONE word about this.

He Obviously has a bias against foreigners and should be

removed from his post.

I hope his statement is shared with facebook worldwide etc and gets maximum exposure, i am sure he would wish his views and love of protecting his Thai citizens to be aired, showing what a true upstanding person he is.

go <deleted> your self  minister just  like youve done to your  fellow  Thais on a daily basis

No prizes for guessing what the C stands for.

C = Charnvirakul Thai health minister has a slash at ‘dirty farang’ | The Thaigerson of Chaovarat Chanweerakul (cropped).jpg

And yes, accusing all foreigners of being 'dirty farangs' is a cunning stunt.

Even if the comments that Anutin allegedly made are true, I couldnt care less. Why let someone like that get under your skin?

I haven't seen the link for the original tweet so here it is

The account is brand new and unverified so.. could be a troll.

Edit: Seems like the tweet was just removed

Does he mention anything about the air pollution when he was

up in Chiang Mai,its very bad today.

God help us if this man ever gets the immigration top job,we will

all be F#^ked,he must be one of the most Xenophobic ministers

You are correct, Thais are super clean..............on their selves but try to watch 3 meters away from them what is happening

Look at their houses, yeah you  must take  your shoes off to go in then take a real close  look at the floor and where the floor  meets  the walls and around the light switches, sockets etc, usually BLACK with year of human oil form being touched, you can scrape it off with a knife sometimes. As for the shops in the road, many are filthy dirty absolutely black.

I am feeling sooooo welcome in this country ????

Everybody should share this on every available Thailand related tourism Facebook group and send messages to the TAT in your home country, that you thought about to travel to Thailand in November/December but now you know how the government thinks about white tourists and decided to visit another country.

I know a regular mask is doing nothing for a normal healthy person, other than it is a very small barrier for catching droplets if someone sick sneezes in your direction, but seeing us falangs beeing pointed out like this, I wonder if it's safer just to wear a mask when I'm in Bangkok next week to avoid getting into any discussions with the locals who takes his words for facts.

Or can the normal Thai see through this smokescreen of fake news out there?

Some can, most can't.

I doubt Bangkokians are going to give a toss. Most aren't wearing masks themselves and Thais aren't confrontational nor do they feel comfortable talking to strangers. No one will talk to you to comment on why you aren't wearing a mask. That's more likely to happen in America, where strangers do get into the affairs of others. One of few things I really like about Thailand is that most people don't get involved in other's business.
