Chan is hardly a Thai Chinese surname. 

 

The most telling sign is his skin color and facial feature, they are of native South East Asian feature and not of Chinese feature. You do know that native South East Asian have darker skin and rounder eyes than the ethnic Chinese, don't you?

 

However, Anutin do look like Chinese.

I honestly can't understand why a government official of a country that relies on and has relied on tourism from the west for years past and years to come (at least 50% of tourism GDP) would be stupid enough to say such things - it really beggars belief 

 

It would not surprise me if western tourists booked their holidays elsewhere - they are not stuck for choice 

 

Thailands attitude stinks of late - nothing to do with virus or anything else, at some point going forward the money sucked from the people will make a difference and I am talking South America difference - Venezuela being a fine example - an oil rich country that on paper should have prospered but got sucked dry by those in charge, where is the wealth now ?............in greedy hands and far away from the people

If you think Thailand can survive without western tourists then you are delusional

 

I think it is about to be tested - I personally know 10 people who had booked to come here on holiday and have decided not too, various reasons but ultimately they don't like the tone

 

Western people (just like Thai) can very easily be disrespected - that's 2/3 of Thai tourism and tourism GDP going somewhere else - we will take our smell and our money elsewhere

The main difference is that he has the courage to say what 10s of millions of locals think.

 

That's why so few Thais are publicly complaining about his comments.
