Wherever you have a mass exodus of staff to the sticks, you have the potential to really spread this bug around. 6

Popular Post Is this real Posted March 18, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2020 Honestly, why the panic? Economies and countries are being destroyed all for the sake of an inflammatory news story. But, shutting down every event is just plain stupid. Honestly, why the panic? There have been, essentially, NO DEATHS from CORVID-19 in people under 50, as of March 16. Yes, you can get sick for a few days as with a normal cold. But, CORVID-19 is not a threat to most of the world. All efforts should be directed to the +50 year olds. Old folks, such as me, need to be careful, as with any virus. 6

Popular Post Mises Posted March 18, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2020 37 minutes ago, ChrisY1 said: So is the entire world out of step......while you're in step? Yes The problem at the moment is there is blind panic caused by a world media hell bent on creating a crisis where none currently exists. How many have Corona in Phuket? Government over reaction in the UK will close down the economy and you cannot instantly start it again. More people die of TB and normal flu than this virus – and road accidents here. Yes, China has (had?) high levels of illness and a few thousand deaths which though sad is nothing in the grand scheme of things. New cases in S. Korea are declining. This is working because the virus is contagious but not highly contagious and sensible precautions can and are preventing high transmission levels. Sensible precautions do not require closing down the economy or part of it e.g. entertainment. We have the best model available in the case of the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Transmission control was almost non-existent in an enclosed environment and 25% of people, went down with the virus. This is probably a good worst case scenario barometer. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/coronavirus-outbreak-diamond-princess-cruise-ship-death-rate It is also the only cluster of virus’s victims where the total number of actual cases is known. 634 from 3,711 passengers, 6 deaths. These victims were all in the high risk category but so far less than a 1% death rate. The reason this cluster has the lowest death rate is that it’s the only one with a percentage based on total infections. Extrapolate this into the higher risk group and the overall death rate falls to a few tenth of a percent for the general population. Writing about and analysing this would be the most sensible piece of journalism the media could perform but it doesn’t play to the gallery and click bait. We need to take sensible precautions but at the moment this is going way over the top and will lead to huge economic damage lasting years. I remember in the UK the BMA’s view that `AIDS will affect us all’. It did not but at its peak, more people were employed as AIDS advisors than had the disease. I also remember the Government view that Mad Cow Disease would kill half a million or more though the death toll came to less than 200 It was claimed swine flu would kill 65,000 in 2009. Less than 500 people died and the UK Government wasted £500 million of our money on vaccines which had to be thrown away 71 people have already died in the UK, this is, of course, sad but it is fact that most, if not all, had underlying health conditions. It is not unusual for 50,000 people to die of flu in the winter months. 5 2 1

natway09 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Another 2,000 girls head home to the sticks possibly moving the virus to more parts unknown. Why cannot this Government realize that travel should be minimized ????? 1

At this point, I'm just repeating the best numbers available. While people are getting sick, it seems the vast majority are over 60 with underlying health problems i.e. diabetes, heart, or respiratory problems. Are you able to check reliable sources, or, do you just post ignorantly? 1
rucker4012 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Restaurants in Chalong have been ordered by police to close. Will call governor's office 08:30 tomorrow for clarification. Gyms have been added to list w/o explanation. Talks of exceptions for restaurants with provisions for social distancing but no where is there an explanation or definition of social distancing. Believe police have over reacted or misinterpreted directions. There seems to be a provision for compensation if shut down without proper authority.
Inepto Cracy Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 There are many food delivery services operating on Phuket. Don't know if I could name them without being banned on the forum? Some restaurants do their own deliveries right to your door, ok gate. Just look for the motorbikes with the green, orange or pink warmer boxes strapped to the back of the motorbikes.

Yet the night time venue in Kamala that pulls hundreds of people in from all over Phuket every night remains open. No threat of a virus with big money involved! 1
ChipButty Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I feel sorry for all the staff working in the bars most of them have got nothing to start with maybe they should setup something at the orbortor where we can donate food 1

The rest of the world are following their lead in introducing similar measures to contain the spread. 1
ChipButty Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 They should have banned sales of alcohol then that would stop these restaurants doing a roaring trade selling beer and not selling any food Im told the police did the rounds the other night
