Number 1 of memo is to allow more than one 30 day extension for those with tourist visa or visa exempt entries under clause "2.4 In the case of tourism purposes" of police order 327/2557.

 

Number 2 is for those that have entered using a non immigrant visa that can be extended for 30 days under clause "2.28 In the case of necessity, with certification or request made by an embassy or consulate:"

 

Number 3 is under this in the covering notice of the police order.

"5. In the case where an alien applicant does not meet the full qualifications stipulated by the criteria herein or in other cases not specified in this Order but a competent officer equivalent to or higher than inspector is of the opinion that the alien has legitimate reason for staying in the Kingdom of Thailand, the application shall be forwarded to the Commander of the Royal Thai Police or an authorized competent officer for further consideration of the alien's application."

They can keep going back for additional 30 days? 30 days are unlikely to be enough

However, going to the Thai Immigration office could expose you the virus. Why force people to go to a crowded office full of potential carriers? Just make it automatic and check on departure.

Well, it's a start.  At least someone has recognized that there are people here in limbo.  The humanitarian efforts are bringing a tear to my eye....

Imho this is only for citizens from countries listed on this document. But they didn't write this really clear, so could also be for everybody, but to be sure we have to wait for reports from people next week.

I justed edited the topic to make it clearer that is is for all entries for tourism purposes.

You are wrong. The first paragraph clarifies it.

That is only needed for number 2. They are required under the clause mentioned. Most people will not need the letter.

Why not do what the South Koreans did and just give everybody amnesties for a period of time?

The immigration offices are going to be rammed

So with NON-O you need a letter, as tourist not.

Makes sense?

I think the majority of people that will need the extension are here as tourists.

Not many people are on a non immigrant visa entry.

For those  that cannot /do not /are unable to use  category 1 or 2  can  apply anyway.

People who are here on SETV/METV and have already extended for 30 days, they can keep extending for 30 days each time moving forward?

Yes. I'm English, but I don't have an English passport to show so not much luck really ????

I think it is like this:

"Those" are the listed countries, and this order is only for people from "those" countries, so if you are not from one of "those" countries you can't get such an extension.

This is of course my personal opinion and next week it could turn out that i'm wrong.

Ubonjoe thinks for all, i think only for people from the listed countries.

Tomorrow, or in a few days, we will see who is right. Today it's just guessing because the document is not 100% clear.

With a unbiased opinion I am certain it is for all countries due to these two words "" which means other than those countries listed.   

The release is identifying those countries in particular because it is very clearly much safer to stay in Thailand. A good thing! As the situation changes so will the policy... safe to assume that

has a choice still to go home if you can find a flight but also probably OK to stay in Thailand and get an extra 30 days if you want it. We will of course need to go to our nearest Immigration Office's though... to find out for sure! Can't really expect more than this... can we?

If past experience is anything to go by it's gonna take visits to multiple IO offices and a variable picture will emerge!
