The lengths the Thai government and people go to maintaining an 'us vs. them' mentality by consistently making distinctions between Thais and foreigners is getting on all our nerves. Thailand needs a good dose of political correctness and leftist indoctrination, not this racist BS they've been getting away with for so long. The world we're heading into is going to be more multicultural, about time Thailand gets with the times instead of living in the 18th century. I can't remember the last time any American government directive or business or just any individual made a distinction between American citizens and foreigners. It just doesn't happen. It decimates the virus. We will not see big numbers. I estimate it will fade out at less than 5,000 cases total. Hope I am right. Malaysia jumped 172 infected yesterday to almost 1800. Indonesia is going up now they're reporting up 102 yesterday to 790. Still guess you're right. Pretty chilly countries. Less than 5000? So sometime in the next couple of weeks should see the end of it. 1

john smith
Told to stay indoors and advised to stay indoors do not have the same meaning. Told indicates possible consequences. Advised means do it for your own safety but the choice is yours. The headline and the full article are at variance on this point. Obviously all recommended precautions should be taken. We are talking about 1000 infections in a nation of 68 million people. Panic is setting in, and alot of inane thoughts and edicts are being tossed about. There is absolutely no need for the entire nation to self isolate. The virus will come in cycles. One two week cycle does not mean the end of this virus. Common sense is required, in the absence of intelligent leadership. Mike Lets be frank , it is not common sense to state there are only 1000 infections . There will in all probability be millions infected though very many of these may well have minor or no symptoms. 2

If people ignore the peril and keep socialising this virus will sweep rampantly through the country. Socialising is clearly risky, but people should be able to exercise in order to stay healthy. I'm looking forward to striding along our empty promenade or cycling the barren streets. No risk to me or anyone else, whereas a few days stuck in doors with Thai TV and I'd be munching chairlegs.

You just need to encounter one person with the virus. How do you think China stopped the virus from spreading throughout China: Complete lockdown! Currently Indonesians are dying in the streets. I can quite easily imagine that happening in Thailand too.

expat1010
Kind of like closing the old proverbial barn door after the horse named Covid-19 has already pulled a runner. Should have closed it back in January or February or even early March. At this point herd immunity is now the default strategy for Thailand.
