The cancelled Songkran holiday is approaching, Thai's will still congregate in groups and try to get drunk over this period. Banning alcohol reduces this risk. Also in recent days there have been news of farangs gathering in groups on the Pattaya and Jomtien beach areas, also a risk, so this is why. 2 1

We, sociable farangs, are also advised to keep our family units in ONE place.

I have a bottle of Hong Thong (normally used to make "offerings"), a bottle of Jack, a flask of Jack (for road trips) and a bunch of soda and Coke in the fridge and no, it's not because I stocked up. (I don't drink much to begin with so I'm probably good for months !) Shock ! My fridge has a freezer compartment where I can make ice (when I make enough room in there to put the ice cube trays back in) ! It's not like this wasn't expected either. People have been asking about potential alcohol bans for quite awhile now. But it's the same every time any ways. Thailand announces the bars will be closed for a day because of an election - foreigners start crying about not being able to drink. Thailand announces that there will be no liquor sales on a certain religious holiday - foreigners start crying about not being able to drink. Virus is ravaging the planet and shutting down everything, Thailand announces a ban on liquor sales - foreigners start crying that they can't buy booze or drink outside their houses. And NO ONE said you are locked in your house/apartment/wherever. They SAID you can't drink (alcohol) outside. And if that's a problem for you, then maybe you need help. A lot of help. Of the professional kind. Honestly, I don't know how some of you people have even survived this long. bkk6060 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 For all the addicts getting the shakes and having mental problems, I believe the rehab facilities are still open. If not, one on the monestaries may be of assistance. Good luck. 1 1 1

That is me, and my good lady, sharing a cold can on the terrace as the sun and heat descends. Apparently no longer allowed.....for 3 weeks we have isolated and keep things bearable with simple pleasures. Why turn that screw on this? 2

Guderian Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) The wholesalers are all open and selling happily in this part of town. I've got quite a stock here but as you never know how long this will go on for I decided it was wise to lay in some more supplies. Definitely no problems lasting well into May now, hic! Food is essential, alcohol is not. Did you think that in a lockdown people no longer need to eat? I can also buy takeaway food in the shopping malls and other restaurants, and they have plenty of customers too. Many people are struggling financially right now. They need to spend any cash they have on food. 1
