Thailand to allow alcohol sales after three-week ban: officials

Featured Replies

The three weeks of no alcohol sales amounted to the loss of tax revenue of about 37 billion baht, quite a bit in anyone's accounts book.

Money talks, and with the collapse of the tourist trade which will drag on for many more months the rather knee jerk booze ban had to go.

I guess they managed to strike a deal for 2 billionaire families to "help" them after all.. I wonder how much had to be added to the piggies trough to get the ban lifted ??

If this about-face was influenced by lobbying from alcohol producers that earn the govt. billions in excise tax revenues, I don't see anything wrong with that.   Much more likely is a belate

You think that announcing that the ban would continue for another month was just a bargaining ploy ?   Cynic ????

What a joke.Nakhon Phanom has had 1 case 3 weeks ago and the Governor has banned alcohol sales to the 15th. Alot of people here are <deleted> off about it according to social media.

Do these governors get elected, probarbly not.

In Au every pull up generally involves breath test. It's compulsory to show licence etc. On top of that it's just an on the spot fine.

Only WA issue an on the spot fine for low range (0.05 to 0.079), 0.08 and up its automatic licence suspension.

Every other state and Territory has a mandatory licence suspension......... as well as a fine.

Yes very true. My son recently had breath test and was in "high range" 0.21

Result was licence cancelled 12 month and then will need to have interlock device on car. Very expensive exercise. BTW his first alcohol driving offence with 10yr experience. No mucking about in Au.

There will be a nationwide ban on alcohol on Wednesday May 6th due to a religious holiday, nothing to do with covid 19.

Well I lucky I made it through now to start stocking up again, big money there guess Flip and Flop did well there, but the voters were not happy
