ThailandRyan
Pool at my condo has been closed since they were told to close them. However, the bathrooms and the showers in the facility are being used by some families as they are trying to save money themselves and as most of us pay fee's every month still, they figure why run there water and electric bill's up higher if they can still sit down there and shower.....of course the Sauna's are closed, so confused why the restroom facilities are open. Of course I asked and was just given a blank look back in return by the juristic office....

The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that a residual concentration of free chlorine of ≥0.5 mg/l in the pool water after at least 30 minutes of contact time at a pH <8.0 is sufficient to kill enveloped viruses like coronaviruses. The main questions we’ve been asked are: 1. If my swimming pool is chlorinated according to current best practices and recommendations (Free Chlorine: 1-3ppm), is this sufficient to inactivate COVID-19 virus? Yes, for a conventional swimming pool with good hydraulics and filtration, operating within its design bathing load, adequate water quality is achieved with a free chlorine level of ≥0.5-1.0ppm throughout the pool. Lower free chlorine concentrations (0.5 ppm or less) will be adequate when chlorine is used in combination with ozone or UV disinfection. https://www.zodiac.co.nz/are-pools-safe-during-covid-19 Edited May 12, 2020 by SkyFax

Simply more ignorance, and fear mongering, from an administration that is so devoid of scientific facts, it boggles the mind. Social distancing can be practiced anywhere. People need exercise, and recreation. And people need to be outdoors. This encourages better health, and strengthens the immune system. They should have gotten rid of Anutin a long time ago. The nation needs someone with an education in health. He has proven himself over and over again to be inept, ignorant, and in completely over his head. A true BOB (bottom of the barrel) pick, totally without merit. The bigger concern is contact with other people while swimming. The key is still social distancing. if you're in a pool and you're in close contact while not wearing a mask, then the virus can still be spread. Then you may ask, well, why not wear a mask in a swimming pool? Obviously swimming with a mask on your face can be dangerous for other reasons...

Popular Post Guderian
They're simply incapable of looking ahead. If they believe that swimming pools are a danger now, then (short of a vaccine) why would that change in the future? In other words, either all communal swimming pools in Thailand will remain closed forever and you may as well convert them into fish ponds, or else in two weeks or two months they will reopen them, even though nothing important has changed, in which case the current closure is completely and utterly pointless. 5 1

It should not be beyond the wit of man, (or a building management company) to enforce a prohibition on 2).

They should lock everybody indoors, wait 6 months, and whoever is still alive by then can be unemployed, starving, and living on the streets. The costs of covid will be thousands of deaths... 55 direct deaths so far, the rest will starve, shot by police trying to steal food, or jumping off a building. Covid will be here tomorrow, next week, next month, next year... when can pools open? 0 cases for 14 days? Zero cases for 23 days, 5 cases in 48 days, when? Well, they just announced that they're going to open Thai massages soon but only foot massage allowed ???? I guess this is going to work just as well as making sure there is no prostitution. SkyFax
From the actual WHO report referenced in my post above: Water, sanitation, hygiene, and waste management for the COVID-19 virus Interim guidance 19 March 2020 "For effective centralized disinfection, there should be a residual concentration of free chlorine of ≥0.5 mg/L after at least 30 minutes of contact time at pH <8.0. https://www.who.int/publications-detail/water-sanitation-hygiene-and-waste-management-for-covid-19 The CDC report referenced makes no mention of the lag time required to neutralize the virus in a swimming pool. I only first responded this topic to the post that claimed that chlorinated pool water kills the virus instantaneously. Jimbo2014
Direct from the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/water.html There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water. While there is ongoing community spread of COVID-19 of the virus that causes COVID-19, it is important for individuals as well as owners and operators of these facilities to take steps to ensure health and safety: Everyone should follow local and state guidance that may determine when and how recreational water facilities may operate. Individuals should continue to protect themselves and others at recreational water venues both in and out of the water – for example, by practicing social distancing and good hand hygiene. In addition to ensuring water safety and quality, owners and operators of community pools, hot tubs, spas, and water play areas should follow the interim guidance for businesses and employers for cleaning and disinfecting their community facilities.
