Dumplings test positive for bacteria after deadly food poisoning

Dumplings from a stall that served a Samut Prakan woman just before she died of food poisoning have tested positive for dangerous bacteria.

 

A test conducted by Regional Medical Sciences Centre 6 in Chonburi revealed the dumplings were contaminated by a colony of bacteria, Public Health Ministry spokesman Dr Opas Karnkawinpong said today (May 14).

 

However, they could not be identified as the cause of death until it was confirmed the dumplings tested came from the same batch that the victim had eaten.

 

On May 9, about 20 people in Samut Prakan province suffered diarrhea after consuming dumplings from a vendor named Mint.

 

Among them was Thanoo Changphupha-nga-ngam, 66, who died of dehydration. She was cremated yesterday (May 13).

 

The vendor, Mint, 29, told police on May 11 that she did not make the dumplings herself but bought them from a producer in Chachaeongsao province.

 

The producer, Suwannee, 55, said that she had been making dumplings for 10 years and had never had a problem. She insisted her production process was hygienic and said she tested batches before selling them to make sure there was no problem.

Considering how "eager" they are to test for any kind of bacteria/virus in Thailand, it's a miracle there has only been one death in this dumpling case.....

Thats a big problem in Thailand they dont throw things away Im always worry about that in low season especially seafood

But I will tell you the meaning of HIGIENIC word for mayority of food’s vendors. ????

Of course she batch tests everything, and the vendor stored them in perfect condition before cooking them and selling them in a timely manner.

E. coliE. coli
Most strains of E. coli are harmless to humans. However, there are some that can make you ill. These strains are usually found to contaminate raw or undercooked meat during processing, so food items such as meatballs, mince meat or burgers are particularly susceptible. E. coli can also contaminate unpasteurised milk.

 

ShigellaShigella
Shigella can contaminate food if it has been washed in infected water, such as bagged salad or vegetables that have been contaminated in the field. Shigella can also be spread from person to person. You can read more about Shigella here.

Factory farming animals - besides being incredibly cruel and immoral - is a festering hotbed of bacteria and future pandemics.

Restaurants opening and with a lack of customers, who knows how many times food has been frozen, left or reheated..maybe not poisening on this scale but there will be quite a few customers now getting the squits after dining out.

I have frozen dimsums/dumplings whatever u want to call them in my freezer. Buy them from Big C.

 

Think I'll give them a miss for a few days, lost my appetite, bit like me telling the missus what flies get up to before landing on her food when she was eating breakfast this morning. Stopped her dead in her tracks.

There are literally thousands of things capable of causing gastroenteritis. And some can be carried by people who never show symptoms. From a medical science point of view there is interest in identification.

For the  general public the best interest is in shutting her operation down !
