Could covid actually save more lives than it takes?

Featured Replies

Now that we have some pretty good numbers on IFR and can see that it really is quite low and not as bad as everyone thought it was, could this be a wake up call to all those who are are eating and living unhealthy lifestyles?  We won't count all the people who during this lockdown who could not get regular medical treatment which will undoubtedly leads to or has lead to more deaths that aren't covid related in the near term. Of course, this lockdown has caused deaths non covid related which could have been prevented without the lockdowns.

As most everyone now knows, besides being dangerous to elderly people, this virus is bad for those who are obese and the health factors that go along with this including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels etc.

Is this going to wake people up that need to do something to to make themselves less at risk?  Only time will tell...............

If you are referring to Thailand first & foremost no person has been denied any medical care for reasons

other than the virus, all hospitals are treating people as normal, so that argument is baseless except for laziness on behalf of the should be patient.

The deaths during the 7 deadly days on the roads at  Songkran (due to cancellation of the holiday)

are well down.

Those that are abusing their body will more than likely continue to do so, although there may be a few that take some remedial steps & they would have anyway.

The US where obese has  become the norm is not going to change soon

There is a possibility that better hygiene  habits could reduce deaths from other conditions if maintained

I doubt that.  Take obesity.  People know darn well that being overweight is unhealthy.  When you can barely walk up one flight of stairs without keeling over.  And on top of that, society tells you practically everyday how unattractive being a fatty is.  Yet, millions do nothing about it.

The only people who might change their lifestyles are those who caught the coronavirus AND got severely sick from it (excluding those who died of course).  That's a pretty small number of people.
