Som Tam seller's past catches up with her - Thai police move on two decades old case

Naew Na reported that officers of the Crime Suppression Division arrested a 37 year old Som Tam (papaya salad) seller in Pratuchai sub-district of Ayuthaya.

Naree (surname withheld) had failed to turn up for an appearance at the Juvenile and Family Court when she was 16.

A warrant was issued for her arrest but she had disappeared.

The charges related to an illegal border trip she made with several others via boat into Laos. Immigration officials were waiting on their return and drugs were found.

They were all charged with immigration irregularities and having drugs intended for sale.

In an attempt at mitigation Naree said that her elder brother who was due to take her to court told her that all the charges were dropped and she was free to carry on her life as normal.

But that was not true and the police did not forget serving her with the warrant at her Som Tam shop on Wednesday.

If that was true then why did she disappear ?

Why do you think she disappeared intentionally hiding. She could have just gone about her normal life but police just let it go.

Ne interesting if police still have evidence of the drugs, or any other paperwork.

This appears to highlight the inadequacies of the Thai Justice disaster. She did something as a minor. She has an ID card so has obviously been traceable the entire time, and apparently hasn't been arrested in 20 years, for other offenses,  so why now?

Did she upset someone?  Who dug it up and why is the most interesting and untold piece of information here.

Ye ha she claimed her 5000 baht handout gave all her details and bingo, this will be the first of many

Nice try... but after 20 years?

Incredulous !

Something iffy about this story, what about statute of limitations?

You know Red Bull heir only has to stay out of the country 10 years.

This story stinks, oops silly me Red Bull heir got lots of money, som tam seller got no money.

I don't think the statute of limitations apply in her case as she had already been charged within the time-frame, just didn't bother to turn up for the court hearing.
