(There was a swathe of them purchased several years ago for high ranking officials, but the whereabouts are a bit vague now) and add the government vehicle.

Is his mother still alive? She must be knocking on a bit if she is. If she is not, how can he explain away the ring as being his mother's? Surely, if she has kicked the proverbial bucket, that ring is now his property. I understand that when you die, you do not retain ownership of your property. I seem to recall many people saying "You can't take it with you!"

True enough. But this declaration of wealth, details of all assets, of MP's and their spouses is taken very seriously and declared public office. It's tracked and therefore, in theory, transparent.

 

Other who "made mistakes" in declaring their assets, even honest ones, were pursued to court. Some I believe dismissed from office and bared for x number of years.

 

So, the application and enforcement, it seems, is totally selective. As is the discretion in believing which excuse you want to believe.

 

The other, might I suggest, rather more serious questions would be into unusual wealth. And no one it seems, wants to go down that road.

Like the response from the government regarding wearing motorbike helmets.
