could you tell me WHY, when buying a new vehicle one has to produce a CERT OF RESIDENCE.....for the showroom from where one is buying new vehicle...

I had to get one.....did this yesterday.....cost me 300 baht......!!!

another money making racket for Thailand !!!!

its to register the vehicle in your name.

Be happy if the res.cert. was enough.

Here in the sticks in 2011 they treated me like a child wanting to buy and needing a guardian.

Needing all kind of stuff from my wife even the marriage certificate (no joke)!!!

Overall it was possible only after I had left the showroom in anger and they followed me.

In Korat they cost me 500/certificate and in the past I've needed 2 everytime I bought a new bike. One when I purchased it (red plates) and a new one a month or two later when I got the white plates. License to print money.

And to think folk on here have said a 20 baht yellow house book is useless.......????.......????

Trans...you beat me to that comment by two minutes ...... actually mine was free but the running around was a pain, but the book has proved useful many times eg instead of having to get a c of r

thats  what concerns me stuff that is not really needed.....why need/show a marriage cert.....JUST to get a new car/truck.....what does being married mean to get one???

Looking back: it was seemingly a "replacement" for the res.cert.

A proof of address for the DLT.

The obvious: a res.cert. was not asked for.

Probably just ignorance of the dealer.

Now I have yellow book/pink card which is accepted at MY office.

on the back of a driving licence is ones address.....so why DO THEY NOT ACCEPT THIS as proof of where one lives??

hence my comment of just another money making machine....to rip people off !!!
