May 2020 Tourist Arrivals - Down 99.981%

526 tourist arrived in Thailand in May 2020, down 99.981% y-o-y.

 

Arrivals are nearly so few in number they should be mentioned by name on a bronze plate at the airport.

They came from:

 

Malaysian = 351

Lao = 95

Japanese = 22

Philippines = 13

Singapore = 10

Myanmar = 9

Cambodian = 7

Vietnam = 4

Ukraine = 4

Chinese = 1

Indonesian = 1

Indian = 1

 

Also one American, one British, one German, one Russian and an Irishman entered the Kingdom. Great starting line for a joke.

 

35,275 air crews entered, outnumbering tourists 67:1.

More interesting, 73 Non-() visa holders also managed to enter Thailand in May.

68,285 foreigners and oddly also 66,316 Thai departed from Thailand in May.

The correct number is of course -99.98103908%.

Good point about truck drivers coming through land borders.

Diplomats have a different classification and are not included in tourist numbers.

Take a meat cleaver out of the drawer, proceed to a  safe  flat area, preferably a   table, place  meat cleaver in right hand whilst placing left hand on table, bring  cleaver  down sharply onto left hand, this  may cause a slight tingling sensation, report back if  you are .981,  if  you are higher  just repeat procedure.???? Dont stand  too  close to the table as other protruding body parts may be come "entangled"

Nope, the correct number of tourists arriving in Thailand may 2020 is going to be -100%. There have not been any tourists arriving. The ones that has been arriving is only transport employees, flight staff and possibly other areas of work for people. Tourism is closed until further notice. The news is totally wrong.

Well, if that is the case you better call immigration, because the men and women in uniform have let 526 souls enter the Kingdom with a tourist visa.

Yes, maybe they are using that type of visa, or reporting border crossing permits as tourist visas. I do not believe it has been any issued for the purpose of tourism, though.

You might be way off on that prediction.

With only a single Chinese arrival we might see a 100,000,000% y-o-y increase in Chinese arrivals in May 2021.

To many on this forum, everything is wrong.

If you scroll the spreadsheet you will see the detail. As far as I can make out only 7 entered on a tourist visa, with 73 on non immigrant visa and 519 on visa exempt.

Reasons for entry will be varied and very unlikely to have anything to do with actual tourism.

In this xenophobic environment it would be difficult for some to think that the 7 tourist visas could have been foreigners with Thai wife and immigration exercised some compassion.
