UN Praises Thailand’s Management of COVID-19 Threat

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - Due to the well-managed COVID-19 situation in Thailand, the kingdom has been receiving compliments from many countries as well as from the United Nations.

 

Mr. Chuan Leekpai, President of the National Assembly disclosed today that at a meeting with Mrs. Gita Sabharwal, the new UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand, they were discussing the COVID-19 situation in Thailand and she praised Thai authorities and the people as having successfully coped with the virus.

 

Mr. Chuan expressed his concerns about the country’s economy, saying that the government needs to solve this problem as soon as possible. He also told the UN representative about the Thai medical sector that has been strengthened and developed over a long period, as they prioritize the needs of every human.

 

Notwithstanding where they graduated, none of them would leave a patient in need and would never give up. This strength and commitment is also displayed by Thailand’s medical volunteers.

Really?

Laws are orders. Thais take no notice of them as we know.

What makes you think they will blindly follow other orders?

Maybe they should be congratulating Thailand on its geographical location.

They could have added "Shame that you couldn't do anywhere near so well as Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam or Laos whose combined population is more than double yours, yet they have less than 1 quarter of Thailand's cases"

Perhaps as well having seen the medical facilities in Myanamar, Cambodia and Laos you wouldn’t want to fall sick there.

Many of the world's experts are are learning ways to manage this virus, because it is a new strain. Observing other countries, maybe excluding those with stupid Presidents, it is difficult to correlate exactly what has been universally constant that would allow definitive conclusions to be reached.

In Thailand, whether by luck or good judgment, we should be thankful we have arrived at a point where just about everyone has escaped the infection and much fewer having died.

We have lived with inconvenience, and for many, economic hardship but on balance, instead of being critical and cynical of the Governments handling of the situation over six months, let us give this one to them.

Yes lets keep the country sealed off while the millions who depend on it continue to suffer the brunt of it endlessly waiting for a vaccine that is unlikely to come and certainly not anytime soon. For those wealthy enough to see it through, thats great but how about those who cannot?

Because we just saw it happen

Thailand's strategy of not doing much testing was only slightly less effective than its neighbors doing no testing. But overall it was a much better strategy than testing like crazy. Which is what happened in the hardest hit areas.

Lesson learned. Testing spreads Covid19.

 So your idea would be what exactly? I assume you have a much better solution to curb the spread...maybe copy the UK perhaps...only 50,000 deaths there.

No doubt Thailand has done well.  Whether it be good management, or external factors like weather and culture (wai, no handshakes, no hugging, face masks etc) remains to be seen.  Don't need the crazies at the UN to announce the obvious, although perhaps they should stick to pointing out the obvious as they seem to screw up every time they try to extend themselves beyond that limit.

58 COVID-19 deaths and 6,000 road accident deaths so far this year. Great that they've done something effective about the former, when will they get serious about the latter? An unnecessary death is an unnecessary death, no matter its cause!

58 "official" deaths. Not recorded are the deceased who were not tested following death, the rural poor who did not have access to medical care, the elderly who suffered the complications of the  infection, and who went untreated.

 

Bear in mind that we are still in the initial stages of the pandemic. It is  gaining strength in Africa and South America; is unchecked in Russia and surging again in the USA.

I think we are in for some surprises.

Just like everywhere else. Or do you know of some shangri-la free of smartphones social media?

Let's be fair, the numbers may be far higher (similar to every country), but one thing you cannot fault them with is the policies that the people here have followed.

 

Just look at the scenes in the UK or USA with people doing whatever they want with no social distancing, no masks and places pretty much open like normal.

Thanks for your thoughtful post; I was getting very fed up with all the repetitious, knee jerk Thai bashers on TV.

I don't think they had much to fight, they got away with sheer luck considering what was happening in early February with the Chinese new year.

I'd liked to have seen how the health system held up if it was 10's of thousands infected and thousands dying?

we appear to have low nos but.........until thailand tests people we will never know the true extent of the problem.obviously everywhere many people have immunity now,its still out there for sure but clusters arnt found and once out of bkk many deaths are mis reported as they were with AIDS.we have escaped i dont understand exactly why but later there will be clusters and theres no way to trak/trace the clusters down effectively.we see that happens many places eg in asia .s korea spore.i would give little credence to anything coming out of PRC as hk sources state that many thousands of deaths went unreported on the mainland by looking at the no of funerals etc that were in excess of nor,mal.over 200k!
