Young Polish woman stranded in Phrae forest retreat since February

Generous locals in Phrae have come the rescue of an 18-year-old Polish woman who has been stranded in the northern province since February.

The woman, named only as Monika, was unable to return home due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is now staying at the remote Mullbery Farm Denchai resort in the forested hills of the province. Resort owner Jaruwan Ekbua is letting her stay for free, while Phrae authorities and locals have donated money and necessities to help her through the lockdown period.

Suchart Somboonteking, the headman of nearby Banmapraw Village, has asked provincial authorities to help care for the tourist until she is able to return home.

Great to see some Thais step-up and help a tourist in need...through no fault of her own...????

I'm thinking these stories are along the lines of the 'honest Thai cabby' stories.

stranded, now that's funny - good thing Thais are a lot more kind than many on this site give them credit for..

most of the comments on here are generally in response to the unsavoury side of Thailand and are in general support of the ordinary Thai people

Nice. Stuck in paradise, and everything free, they may have a problem persuading her to go home.

Explain why a Phrae forest is paradise where one is unable to sustain oneself and totally dependent on others/strangers not really knowing their underlying motivations?

There is good & bad, kind & cruel in every society ............ definitely not news as it happens everywhere if you read the world news. It's only expats here on Thai Visa in Thailand that seem to "bash on" about what Thai's do & their ways of getting things done ........ most posts (my take about 90%) seem to relish in doing this. Pathetic, it's a if they can't wait to "slag off" someone at the first opportunity. I can only surmise that they all lead a very boring life which has worsened since covid19 & all the bars closing ....... must be hell for them not being able to continue their rent over a beer in a bar with "friends" .......... fact.

Rural Thailand and Thais are different than those you find in the cities and tourist hot-spots.  That's why I moved from the city back to rural Thailand many years ago.

Basically the locals have said enough is enough and want officialdom to step in and take over her costs.

Shes lucky not to be in the detention centre with the Nigerians, nobody was legitimately stuck in Thailand.

A lot of Thai Bashing , negative and condescending posters here. They tend to attach anyone who differs from their negativity, but they continue to live here. Not all but a lot of those who post comments. Makes no sense.

Might be a cultural thing and/or having a chip on their shoulder. They spout "TIT" to explain negative things, but in reality it's their own failings.

I try to avoid such people and associate with Thai friends and relatives.

My failing is to answer them on this forum because they don't want to hear the truth.

You overthink this. Most of us go with the flow. You usually get kicked out after a while, which I expect will happen with this gal. Back to reality for you young lady.

free accom in DenChai resort .... free food and some cash given every few days.

Why the heck would you want to be found.

Sure your right. Hopefully the resort and Phrae will get some free press.

True of the natives of many if not most countries I would say.

Well done those people I can't find a shred of generosity in my own country on day 119 for me ????

they had enough.

There were at least 3 repatration flights from Bangkok to Poland late May, she just wanted to wait out the Pandemic on free food and visa lol.

Thailand is not cheap for Poles, we have the same prices for food/uber, so she had to had money when she traveled, not like she was super poor to start with.

And I forgot, you could always fly to Germany and they would let you transit to Poland during all these times.

Runners are for falongs from the isles only, she got free room and board. Good reason to stay. She'll have the whole place fluent in Polish soon.

I wouldn’t mind being stuck there for half a year

Good deal for her. Without people traveling the place would be empty or close too. This way they get some free advertisement. Hopefully their good works will fill this beautiful spot soon.
