Does it have to be by plastic or do they take cash? 

Might be helpful if you told us what you need to pay for.

UK Passport ?

Cannot pay cash , needs to be from a UK bank account because they send the application form to the UK and its processed there

Many Thai bank debit cards will work. People have used them already.

Plus the expense and hassle of 2 enforced and, in your case, lengthy route marches (unless the VFS office in Chiang Mai is more convenient for you).

Agreed, I used my K-Bank debit card and funds were deducted.

i tried to pay with a k bank debit card... it got declined so went to the bank they checked it had been opened for foreign transactions so i tried again and it got declined,

friend paid for me with his uk credit card.

And if it is for a UK Visa for your Mrs/GF, you pay in US DOLLARS or the eqivalent, at a lousy exchange rate.

Strange. They said that K-Bank was perfect at VFS as long as it is a debit/visa card, (which I think is the standard type of card). I paid and funds were taken from my account by the passport office a week later.

Which is much better than having to go back to the UK to get a new passport
