The operative word there was "taxing", in case you didn't notice. Remains to be seen if Thailand goes to socialism to patch up their economy.

It is not viewed as prostitution if you do not pay them up front but rather pay them to leave as the majority here in Thailand do it, just like a divorce ????

Technology is really changing "The Game". Why walk the streets, or have a cut taken by pimps/bar owners etc, when they can just get punters via their smartphones

Thaivisa notes that many Thais are in complete denial about the sex industry.

The whole World knows it so much so that people travel 10,000 miles in search of their brides or engage in orgies in Thailand and Thais are in denial. What bubbles do they live in? Do they think that people travel 10,000 miles for temples and beaches in Thailand?

Many of these girls make more then expats living in Pattays.

I think it is a terrible idea.

But if guys are ok with prices going up, then support it.

The market regulates prices, neither taxes nor the working girls or boys.

Can't wait to see the detailed tax return

Just think of the business expense account write-off if they legalize it.  New Mercedes, Newest I phone, all the designer clothes.  All write offs for business.  Unfortunately the Thais can not think that far ahead....

Unfortunately it will be added to the list of occupations reserved for "Thai only"

What will the Russian, Uzbeks, Ugandans, and other fine ladies be doing then.  Oh yes ping pong ball shows.

How will they control the girls in order to tax them? Maybe in the larger soapies or anywhere where the act occurs in house. But even a gogo where you leave with the girl who is to say what happened next?

All this will lead to is more cutting out the middle man.

And boom boom is already direct on line now all over Thailand.

I have made the point that prostitution is everywhere in the past (and been shot down by many posters for saying so) and that Thailand could do worse then embrace it and accept it as part of their society. Thailand is known the world over for being a sex tourist destination so better to legalise it, protect the people working in the industry, regulate hygiene and help eliminate trafficking and under age sex workers. As much as I personally abhor prostitution I cannot deny it makes sense. Lets see if this gets any traction, I guess now is a good time to pass such a law.

How did you conclude taxation on prostitution means socialism?

You may want to consider your sources or you may be disappointed if you visit Copenhagen.

Besides, the text on that page says "in Amsterdam" if you look beyond the misleading search words. You will find the same text and photos here:

Well about time.

Prostitution is there anyway.

It helps fulfilling a natural need.

It helps people make honest money

Why can't sex be a comodity among others?

Making it legal gives rights to the prostitutes and can make them independant from pims.

Pims are not necessary anyway.

Well if we are talking about bar girls then the bar owner is the pimp and without them they would pretty much be street walkers.  Same can be said for massage parlour owners.

To legalise prostitution you open up a real can of worms.  Gone will be the monthly brown envelopes for the cops. The bars/massage parlours commission will need to be shown and tax paid.  Medical insurance will be demanded and someone needs to be held responsible for that.  Many of the younger girls use their "friends" or relatives ID, they are often not who they say they are.

To sanitise the business would have it's upside but you are likely to lose that edge that makes the game far more of a social event.  Well for newbies anyway.  There is a lot of difference between visiting a hooker sitting in a window with a red light and going into a bar and having half a dozen girls all over you for a drink or two.  For many single ex-pats in Thailand this is their social life and their relationship with the girls is much more than just paying for a short time (deleted).  Sad but true...

I am shocked - SHOCKED! - to discover that there is widespread prostitution in Thailand and that this has been going on for a long time. I must sit down and compose myself. Next thing you're going to tell me that there's corruption and the military and Amart  will never allow there to be democracy in Thailand.

"Taxing them on their earnings would be a bonanza for state coffers."

First. I am not sure if the fee given by the client to the bartender is annouced to the taxes.

Second . I am not sure if the workers declare what they receive from customer when they go out of the bar.
