SePl Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 hola, i am trying to find the easiest way to build bunk beds and sliding doors. What i have found now https://www.instructables.com/id/Minimalist-Bunk-Bed/ Do you think that they are the easiest to build and that any Thai shop would be able to copy these styles ? or can you find something better ? thank you please send me your ideas, you are great. 1
sometimewoodworker Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Neither design is going to do well here. You can’t easily get plywood that’s good enough for the beds and while you can get similar sliding door furniture from Häfele it’s not low priced. most box stores can do a sliding door and furniture for about 3,000 while the Häfele one will cost twice that, without the door! 1
Popular Post action Posted June 24, 2020 Popular Post Posted June 24, 2020 (edited) Yes, you CAN get good plywood here, just have to find the right shop. I can get all kinds of very good wood near my home. SePl, I built bunk beds for my two kids. They have a desk below and bed above. A wrap around stair case with a small closet under the stairs and rope handrails. The two beds are mirror images, son's bed with stairs on the right, daughter with stairs on the left. All made with steel and good quality plywood. The front panel on the bed has webbing in the holes and the panels fold down for cleaning etc. My kids both love these beds, although my daughter is outgrowing hers. We've had them about 8 years. These are obviously not the easiest or cheapest designs. Something like the photo you showed would be super easy. Sliding doors could be done very easily and cheap. I live in the Pattaya area, if you're in this area I can tell you where to get good wood. Send me a message if I can help. Cheers, Edited June 24, 2020 by Crossy Edited to remove flame. 8
Daffy D Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 I found that he top bunk would get too hot unless you have a/c. No amount of fans would keep the top bunk cool enough to be used in the hot weather. Of course depends on the layout of your room and height of ceiling, but something to keep in mind when considering bunk beds. 1 1

Please provide your location when asking for references. Also, many villages have a local carpenter who generally do pretty good work. Sourcing the wood might be an issue (legal?) but worth to check that angle. 1

Grusa Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Search for "Tiny House" on Netflix. There are many fantastic ideas in there, not necessarily for tiny houses, you can adapt them. Ikea do bunk beds and fold away beds. Thai workers can make anything.......if you design it, guide them and supervise. Oh, and remember to pay them...! 2

You should do it professionally. 2 1

I have some nice teak plywood that is going to become a storage headboard for our bed it is probably much cheaper than the same material bought in Europe or the USA but still quite a few times the cost per sheet of AA grade The design that was linked uses 16mm oak plywood that is not at all easy, if available, to find. Plywood with a good surface veneer is available in very thin, 3mm, material, but thicker stuff isn’t found much outside Bangkok. 1

The air at the top of a room isn't any hotter than at the bottom... Okay, maybe 0.01 degrees, but even a small fan can circulate the air enough so the whole room is the same temp. If what you say is true, any two story house with bedrooms upstairs would be too hot to sleep in. While studying for my Mechanical Engineering degree I took two semesters of Thermodynamics, then took Heat and Mass transfer, then fluid dynamics... Plus I have two bunk beds in my house so I'm pretty confident about this. 1

My main room has a temperature sensor near the TV it is showing 30oC there is another about a metre under the ceiling that is at 34oC now, there are 2 fans giving gentle air circulation at the moment. Also some/many badly designed 2 story houses have the upstairs significantly hotter than the downstairs. Edited June 25, 2020 by bankruatsteve Removed petty comment. 2
sandyf Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 To the OP. A sliding door rail similar to your requirement is available in Thailand, and then you can hang any door you choose. I have 2 such doors in my house but the builder put them in so I do not know where they came from. I just described to the builder what I wanted and it wasn't a problem so they shouldn't be too difficult to get. You need to get the description right as at first the builder thought I was referring to an aluminium sliding door so I made a sketch. 1

Another point with bunk beds is the fans do not circulate the air as efficiently as in a room with beds on the floor. The bottom bed airflow is restricted by the top bunk forming a very low ceiling, and the top bunk is always hotter anyway because of rising hot air. Whatever the logistics, I did have bunk beds for the kids but had to take them down to make two singles for the very reasons mentioned. Edited June 25, 2020 by bankruatsteve 3 1
SePl Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 hello, thank you to everybody, Pattaya location, do you know any shop where they will help with door and bed ? I know that i can walk and ask, but so many shops... so if you know one where they are smart enough to understand and do this, please tell me ? Thank you so much again !!! 1
action Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 (edited) I closed all windows, doors and fans in my son's room and let it sit for 2 hours. I took a thermocouple reading at the floor, it was 32 degrees. I held the thermocouple up to the ceiling and it also read 32 degrees. Also, if the air is so much hotter at the ceiling, why would we use ceiling fans? Just to blow hot air down on us? Edited June 26, 2020 by action 1

I think you would be wasting your time in Pattaya, there are some hardware shops up on Suk but I wouldn't hold my breath. You would be better looking at one of the large hardware stores like Global House or Thaiwatsadu. There are some kits available on lazada so may be worth having a good look and copy an image and description of what you prefer before you go shopping. If all else fails you could always risk a kit from there. Here is one and you can search on sliding door rail. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/shipping6-i230461326-s352918598.html?spm=a2o4m.pdp.recommendation_2.2.3ad76625f1ht9S&mp=1&scm=1007.16389.126158.0&clickTrackInfo=a276fb37-cd9c-4bb3-bdee-0937f6ae8079__230461326__11908__trigger2i__171498__0.05__0.059048273__0.101592__0.23096548__0.0066472__0.41413417__1__7__PDPV2V__250__null__null__0____3877.0__0.5001289656951251__4.833333333333333__6__1938.0__12040,12044,16001,20001,21008,21013,23008,23047,23051,23053,24075,38009,49625,51053,54766,69806,70841,72078,76899 1
action Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 I don't think you're wasting your time in Pattaya. I think most TV members just talk bad about Pattaya any chance they get. I also don't think Global house or Thaiwatsadu are going to build anything for you. Here are some suggestions for you, Euro Design Furniture: https://www.euro-design-furniture.com/en/ (probably on the higher end) Shadow Maker: https://www.shadowmakerasia.com/ (I know they specialize in another product, but they are very skilled, smart and do other projects) Sakkarin Furniture: 090-962-6706 Alpha Design and Construction: http://alphathai.com/ Lots of other good, smart, quality people and businesses in Pattaya. Just have to get off the bar stool once in a while to find them. Let us know how it goes. 1
