The government agency that focuses on sustainable tourism has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 17 public and private organisations to boost tourism in Suphan Buri province under the “tourism for all” concept.

Thaweepong Wichaidit, director general of Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), said the aim was to develop areas in the province to serve the tourism industry as well as to improve sites to facilitate all kinds of visitors.

Thaweepong said buildings, hotels, restaurants, public toilets and parking lots will be improved and made wheelchair friendly. DASTA will also cooperate with other organisations to work on expanding the tourism industry in the province.

In addition, Suphan Buri’s Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) office said the “tourism for all” scheme will be managed alongside the “Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration” campaign to ensure all travellers are confident about being safe from Covid-19.

"Thaweepong said buildings, hotels, restaurants, public toilets and parking lots will be improved and made wheelchair friendly".

"Improved" can mean one or many, small or large, today or next year. A hurculean task by any estimation. Having witnessed what is said and done, time will tell.

I lived in Suphan Buri for 2 years, its a very clean city  thats  all you can say about it, maybe  they want some tourists to dirty it up a bit ...certainly nothing there for tourists to see

You can always count on the Government to give us a good laugh when the going gets tough. Love the new tourism strategy - let's promote tourism where there's nothing - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! - to see!

Mind you, there could be some fun activities - perhaps you could have a "Chinese Thai Culture" museum that focuses on Banharn's heritage and upbringing? Maybe you could put a beer garden on the top of the Banharn-Jaemsri Tower?

My wife's home town.....There's a few landmarks and things to see....

But not much & very few english speaking Thai's.....

The city itself is serviceable for shopping & that's about it.....Movies are 99% Thai....

Restaurants = not much for tourists.....Would be wary about shopping for western food needs, or clothing or shoes to fit.....Same for medical facilities & other needed support services....

There is a surprisingly nice aquarium out there in the middle of nowhere.....

Seems to be water shortages constantly.....The local markets are small & dingy (no habla english).....The roads are dark & narrow outside the city & people driving are a cross between untrained maniacs & unskilled country bumpkins....If they can careen and go faster than the next guy, their qualified....No motorcy rental places + if you did, there's no place to go = all spread out from nowhere to nowhere.....Nearest train stop is in Ayutthaya - which actually has much to see....Not sure if there's even a bus stop in town, have to hire a car ride in from the train station.....

There is a small expat group that meets one Friday a month, all look retired....

The wife would love to live there (family/good people) -  I Iook around & wonder why.....
