Shocking video shows moment pick up reverses into mother and child in Pathum Thani

CCTV showed the shocking moment a mother and her daughter were run over by a pick-up carrying furniture that was reversing down a busy main road in Pathum Thani north of Bangkok.

The pair had stepped into the road and had not noticed what was creeping up on them from behind.

They were lucky not to be killed. Poh Teck Tung rescue foundation said they were taken to hospital with leg and rib injuries.

Comment and shares were rife on Thai social media. Most blamed the pick-up driver but others said that the mother and daughter should not have been standing in the road and should have looked to their left.

They appeared to have been waiting for a bus and should not have stepped off the sidewalk, said others.

The incident happened in Klong 3.

The local police said that the driver clearly could not see behind him properly and was negligent.

They suggested he should fit an additional mirror or best of all not reverse down a road but go to a U-turn to get back to where he wanted.

They plan on inviting the driver in for a chat with the victims.

Driver and the woman were both at fault. Driver for reversing when he could not see behind him. Woman for stupidly taking the child onto the road without looking.

Plenty, if not the majority of traffic participants / road users lack prudence behaviour.

The result visible in the high numbers of casualties and traffic accidents.

some sick people here blame the mother ??? <deleted>

this truck backed up, could also have hit the car

he was backing up !!! did the car make the noisy beep beep to warn ?

traffic is supposed to come from one way only

same as that person that died on the motosay avoiding 2 motosays driving on the wrong side

Awareness is not a strong point.

Just another day in Thailand.....you think a normal person would not walk onto the road....especially without looking.....and of course the driver after overshooting his stop does not do a u turn safely and start again.....

So she steps out doesn't look that way, stays standing in the road and then wonders why she gets knocked over. Totally dim witted.

Of course it was her fault. It was a road she was blithely standing still on, not a pavement.  Yes the driver should have been more careful, but he may well have been unsighted and was moving slowly.  That dizzy cow nearly killed herself and the child.

Good point.  I had not noticed them.  Reminds me of Army days.  Absolutely forbidden for drivers to reverse APCs, tanks or any vehicles with restricted rear view without a ground commander.

This type of vehicle should be equipped with a back-up beeper.

I need to start having days out in shopping malls and driving license centre's to cure the boredom. You're as <deleted> as I am, just that you can't admit it.

That’s why they have those security guards with whistles.

Drivers are ALWAYS at fault when they hit pedestrians while going the wrong way on a one-way street, perhaps especially when they're backing up with no rear view. It's not quantum physics.

There is no reason why a car has to back up on a busy road with Lane traffic all moving in his direction...

100% inexcusable driving behavior....you pass you point- go make a u turn and try again...that’s the legal and proper way of driving...it’s a system and not individuals doing what they please...

don’t criticize pedestrians who should not expect vehicles coming the wrong way on a busy street...

You are of course right. Amazingly we cannot even agree on that in here. No wonder accidents happen. It seems to be okey backing up the wrong way without looking properly for some in here too. Blame the pedestrians who were standing on the side of the road.. The world has gone mad.

The woman is absolutely at fault. She should not have been in the road.... period. There is almost no way that the driver could have seen them. I have sometimes whacked stationary motor biles with my pick up when reversing because I can't see them. Release the driver, arrest the mother and declare her unfit to be a parent.

Hands up how many farangs reverse up a one way street without a clear view of what's behind them risk assessment is just a wishful experiment here hope the little one is ok you have been failed by all involved adults ????

Yes indeed, but may I ask why such sickening videos are posted for all to see - morbid curiosity???

A Road was built for Traffic. A Pavement for Pedestrians, but lets not spoil the Snowflakes twisted Posts. The Gormless Pudding just stood there.

Typical Thai driving, no consideration for anyone, both parties to blame but mostly the pickup driver, btw notice the motorbike riding the wrong way round the pickup, happens thousands of times every day, never change!

Notice how the woman lift up the child after being knocked over by the pickup car and then run straight out in the street without watching out for other vehicles.

Nothing surprise me in this video, just another day in LOS were nobody care about safety.
