August 10, 20205 yr I recently noticed a construction that seemed to consist of stainless steel joists. They were welded in place. I thought that welding stainless steel is a danger to health? Does anyone have experience with this in Thailand? I might be interested.... how do they compare pricewise?
August 10, 20205 yr Welding stainless steel produces gases containing nickel and hexavalent chromium. On inhalation these metals can cause lung disease, together with an increased risk of asthma and cancer. Having said that any welding produces toxic fumes to a point, just not sure if stainless is worse.

Stainless will be more expensive...but you wont have to paint it and it should last longer due to less corrosion however there are different grades of stainless steel some do rust.

August 10, 20205 yr Looks like normal steel to me. I'm not sure that you can weld stainless steel. I would imagine that it's a plate coating, applied after it's formation, But that's just an educated guess.

That you can’t weld stainless steel is completely wrong, all forms of welding work.
