I'm not saying QR codes are bad or inconvenient or anything, but I don't find that system to be as fast or convenient as Apple Pay. With Apple Pay you start with a locked phone, double click the power button, and tap. It's dead trivial. Similar workflow on Apple Watch. To use PromptPay QR scan, one must turn the phone screen on, open the banking app, navigate to the scan page, enter an amount (sometimes), and then confirm with a couple of taps. Even if as ready as one can get -- phone already sitting in the scan screen in the banking app -- it's hard to compete with the workflow convenience Apple Pay offers. Again -- I am not claiming PromptPay is bad! And the difference is on the order of a couple of seconds, maybe... but I still find Apple Pay more convenient than QR codes. Of course, that convenience costs money, and getting (for example) mom & pop vendors to give up a percent or two of their commerce is a non-starter. So the Prompt Pay system is a great local solution for cashless payment.
