Murder of Singapore businessman's wife in Korat: Mother slams insensitive Thai media

Daily News reported that an air-conditioning repairman had been arrested for the brutal slaying of a Thai woman at her luxury home in Korat on Tuesday night.

Natrika "Ice" Shibahara - the 29 year old wife of a Singaporean businessman - was found stabbed in the neck in her home in an estate in Ban Mai, Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The motive appears to have been theft according to comments made by the suspect, named elsewhere as Theeraphon, aged 26.

Daily News suggested that he did not know the victim prior to the attack.

Reporters went to the victim's hometown in the village of Non Somboon in Serng Sang district of Korat.

They found distraught mother Thatsanan Phusa in front of the coffin laid out at the house.

She faced the heart-breaking task of receiving her beloved daughter's body on Wednesday.

It was Mother's Day in Thailand and should have been a day of family joy, notes Thaivisa.

She praised her daughter as being a reliable breadwinner and rock for the family who always provided money and paid for her sibling's education.

She wanted to know why the murderer just didn't take what he wanted. "Why did he have to kill her?" she asked.

She said that she didn't want to see his face and would never forgive him.

She slammed the Thai media for suggesting and reporting rumors that her daughter was mixed up with other men. Whilst it was true that she had been married before she was divorced according to the law and got on with her life.

The body will lie at the family home for three days before a cremation on Saturday.

  • All those members on here discrediting the poor lady, should hang their heads in shame. You know who you are, next time something like this happens, think first, not everybody messes around.

  • Indeed! a disgusting part of Thai "life" I will never agree with!

  • May the victim rest in peace. Shame to the parents who used her to pay for their expenses and for the siblings' education, it's the parents duty to take care of this.

Quite often Thai reporters report what they think might have happened , speculate about what could have happened, rather than writing anything factual .

Like : She was pretty > Men like pretty woman > Many men liked her > She had many male boyfriends > one of them must have did it out of jealousy.

Case solved and thats the newstory printed

Nation reported:
"Investigators are working on the theory that the motivation for the murder involved a romantic affair, since the victim was “good looking and had several relationships in the past”.

No wonder Ice's mum is upset with the media assumptions made to feed the keyboard warriors...

What a ridiculous attack.  Most Thais feel an obligation to pay their parents back for their upbringing.  The deceased may have had a good-paying job and wanted to help out her parents.  What the freak is wrong with that??

Her Singaporean Husband may have also helped the Family out financially

Sorry, its not clear as to whether you are asking me a question or making a statement due to you putting a question mark at the end of a statement

I'm sure she will be sorely missed by all the family.

Fully agree Colin. Quite a few commenters here on TV should be ashamed of themselves.

Let Mum decide on the punishment to fit this heinous crime I would want to waste him on the spot ????

Traditionally not in Thailand family life. Traditionally mutual support is everything.  He or she who has, is expected to support those in family  who have not. It's a merit making duty deeply ingrained. At first glance this looks a good Buddhist principle ensuring wealth is distributed fairly within the family but it can be abused by feckless family members freeloading from others in the family perceived, correctly or not, to be better off. Which can lead to family feuds. Whether that is or is not the case here I do not know.

I saw this on the TV news late last night and it looks like they've got the whole thing on CCTV from inside the house.

They froze the CCTV replay on an image of the guy holding a pretty large knife against her back, presumably just before he killed her.

I suspect this is what the mother is complaining about with regard to insensitive media.

People like him are amongst the 'worst scum of the earth'.

Sounds like she was the perfect daughter, proving money for family when needed and paying for other family members schooling, what was Ice's occupation ?

Who cares, the woman has been murdered.

Are you placing a moral judgement on her because she assisted in family matters

What a sad reflection on you

Wow, Was not implying anything immoral or devious.

Obviously you think you was selling herself to be offended by my question.

Judge not, lest you be judged.

She was killed, for whatever reason. Unlawfully taking a life, in any  religion is a sin.

Thai media used to be respectful, now they are just vultures that write what they invent and what will sell.

What a stupid comment. It's perfectly normal in Thai and certain other asian cultures for sons/daughters to go off to work and send money to support their family or younger siblings.

Agree, it's quite common that thai women with a rich sponsor have this kind of deal with the family. Why save the money in the bank when the sponsor pouring money at her?

It's very common for Thai people who earn little (think minimum wage) to send a thousand or so Baht to their family every month, without fail for the duration of their parents life.
